Speaking of which, what was JJ complaining about to Newman after the race? When they first made contact, it sure looked like JJ's fault (and then JJ purposefully bumped him again). Maybe something happened before the first contact?BDKJMU wrote:Ryan Newman...

Re: 2014 NASCAR Thread
Went to the Bristol race last night. Couldn't post from there- couldn't get internet with AT&T. 1st time there. 1st race I've been to since I went to my 1st race (Dover Sept 07) where there was clearly WAY over 100k and the track. No official attendance given anymore at races, but much of race the 160k capacity track looked to be mostly full/130k ish butts in seats. Bet there was 140-150k there. Great place to watch race from (I sat in the Kulwicki section near the center of turns 1 & 2...
F'ing Harvick spun out Hamlin about 170 laps into 500 lap race, who hit wall and collected JR. JR's crew got car fixed, came back out over 100 laps down, got up to speed, & then Letarte called him in. Just wanted to the team to prove could get the car fixed and get it up to speed. Wasn't any sense running any more laps to gain a point or 2.
Sucks that Lagano won. I don't like him.

Always love watching Bristol night race, one of the highlights of the season. So I grab the couch and turn on the TV... Redskins/Ravens pre-season game on ABC. Odd, that's supposed to be on NBC, Comcast Sportsnet and TSN... race must be on somewhere else. ESPN, nope. 2, nope. TNT, nope. WTF?? It was NOT on in the DC area. Four channels for the Skins/Ravens pre-season game.BDKJMU wrote:Went to the Bristol race last night... Great place to watch race

Complete BS that they would air a meaningless pre season game over the Bristol night race. If ABC wants to televise the race, then they should have to nationwide.89Hen wrote:Always love watching Bristol night race, one of the highlights of the season. Re: 2014 NASCAR Thread
Friday Stewart announced will be racing this weekend (video of interview with link):
Tony Stewart: Kevin Ward's death will "affect my life forever"
HAMPTON, Ga. -- Speaking quietly and his voice trembling, NASCAR superstar Tony Stewart said Friday that the death of Kevin Ward Jr. will "affect my life forever" as he returned to the track for the first time since his car struck and killed the fellow driver during a sprint-car race in New York three weeks ago.
"I've taken the last couple of weeks off out of respect for Kevin and his family and also to cope with the accident in my own way," Stewart said. "It's given me the time to think about life and how easy it is to take it for granted. I miss my team, my teammates and I miss being back in the race car and I think being back in the car this week with my racing family will help me get through this difficult time."
Stewart said he could not answer questions about the incident - it remains under police investigation - and he left the news conference after reading a short statement. Stewart-Haas Racing executive vice president Brett Frood said it was "100 percent" Stewart's decision to race and that his 43-year-old driver was "emotional" but ready to go on Sunday night in Atlanta......
The three-time NASCAR champion has not raced since his car hit Ward at an Aug. 9 sprint car event in upstate New York. Stewart pulled out of the race at Watkins Glen the next morning, then skipped races at Michigan and Bristol Motor Speedway.
Stewart, who was described by police as "visibly shaken" the night of Ward's death, has been in seclusion ever since. Stewart's only comment since the crash was a statement the day after the crash in which he said "there aren't words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr."
"Tony has sent the family flowers and a card around the services, aside from that, he has been very respectful of their time to grieve," Frood said. "It is very important to Tony to spend time with the family ... but is being respectful."
Discussing Ward's family, Stewart said "every day I'm thinking about them and praying for them."..."... (continues)

Who cares? Performance of the night was a guy winning a race (TWICE) to make the chace. That yellow with 2 to go was devastating, but Kahne prevailed. Great win to get all four HMS drivers in the chace. Was really cool in winner's circle when Gordon, JJ and Jr all came over to congratulate Kahne.SuperHornet wrote:Performance of the night: +21 spot improvement from start to finish, to end up in the top 10 and nearly in the top 5.

Went to the Chicagoland race. Hell of a move by Keselowski with a few laps left for the win. Believe it used to seat over 90k, but now lists 75k. In the section I sat in the rows used to be labled 1-22. Now they are 1-18. Looked pretty full, read they had 60 some k at the race.
BTW was driving on Rt 66 in Illinois last Sat. Early evening drove through Normal, IL, the home of Ill State U. Stopped at their stadium a few hours after they manhandled EIU 34-15, ironically while the JMU game was still going on. Smallish (13.4 K (doesn't include any temp end zone) capacity but very nice looking brick with no track around stadium.

A grand jury has decided against charging NASCAR star Tony Stewart in the August death of another driver at a sprint car race in upstate New York...
District Attorney Michael Tantillo also said Ward was under the influence of marijuana that night "enough to impair judgment."

Re: 2014 NASCAR Thread
I had three friends in high school who were dirt track racers. All of us enjoyed the occasional dose of THC. Two of those guys still race. One is a frequent modified series champion at Delaware International Speedway (Delmar).
Not condoning anything, but I'd bet there are plenty of guys racing at local dirt tracks with so-called impairment levels of pot in their system who are not dangers to themselves or others on the track.
Pot rarely ever made me want to fight anyone or charge at a moving vehicle. The drug that killed Kevin Ward was testosterone laced with stupidity.
