NFL Gretzky Rule?

Post by SuperHornet »

Every league as a few guys among their elite who stand out enough to warrant the Wayne Gretzky treatment. For the NFL, that list might included Graham, Starr, Payton, Rice, and Montana. (Guy should have been recognized under the Gretzky Rule, too.) Not too many others, and definitely no retirees that I can think of past Montana (though my age bias might be showing just a bit there). Certainly, there are plenty of others who are worthy of induction into the HOF, but not under the Gretzky Rule.

Can you guys think of any others? Before OR after Montana? (FWIW, I WOULD be willing to entertain arguments for P. Manning and maybe Brady, though their careers are FAR from complete yet.)

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

You seem to be of a like mind to Travis...you need to put someone, or some family, up on a pedestal in order to find your place in life.

Travis, although he hated wealthy American, entrenched families, LOVED the pomp and circumstance of the English Royalty...with the millions of dollars (English, pounds, actually) tossed at them by the peasants.

Perhaps the idea of a, "queen" was attractive to UNH...and also the idea of royal dresses (at taxpayer expense) that caused him to drool over Diana & Co.

Maybe making special rules or exception for superstar athletes is your thing. :coffee:
