AUSTRIA AND MEXICO WIN GOLD IN SWEDEN
Austria and Mexico won goal at the 2012 IFAF Flag Football World Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Sunday as the United States were defeated in both the men's and women's finals.
Austria 47 USA 40
USA led Austria 13-0 and 19-7 and had the upper hand at halftime in the men's final, but the Austrians hit back, taking advantage of turnovers to score 19 unanswered points to lead 26-19. USA tied the score and with Austria a squad member down after an ejection due to illegal contact, looked to be about to defend the title won in 2010 in Canada.
The teams exchanged touchdowns and Austria led 33-32 after a failed USA extra point play then with two minutes remaining, after each team had scored again, USA tied the game at 40-40. Austria scored the final and decisive seven points and held out as the clock expired to claim a famous victory.
Mexico 33 USA 32 (OT)
Mexico opened the scoring, but USA hit straight back and the teams continued to exchange scores with Mexico taking the lead each time until the scores were tied at 20-20 and then at 26-26 as both sides failed to convert what would have been a game-winning extra point.
Mexico drove downfield in search of the win with less than a minute remaining, but USA forced overtime with an interception in the end zone as Mexico threatened to steal victory. The drama continued as USA also failed in a last second attempt to break the deadlock.
In overtime, both teams had an opportunity to possess the ball at midfield to score and USA put the pressure on Mexico with a touchdown to lead 32-26, but failed on the extra point conversion. Mexico was spectacular in reply as the first play from scrimmage went for a touchdown and the all-important one-point conversion pass sealed a 33-32 victory.

What? We lost at football? To a bunch of foreigners? I hope we don't let the losers back into the country. Even Mexico beat us, maybe we should let more Mexicans in.

International Federation of American Football Given Provisional IOC Recognition
http://ifaf.org/
The NFL has gone to great lengths to globalize the sport of American football in recent years by playing games overseas, and it took another huge step in this endeavor Tuesday. The sport's international federation has been given provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee, according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports.
It remains to be seen how this will ultimately impact the growth of the sport, but it should be huge in terms of increasing the sport's popularity internationally.
Also, if things progress as well as hoped, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that American football could find its way into the Olympic program down the line.
If American football does become an Olympic sport, it's possible that it will be a modified version, such as rugby sevens, which will be will be contested in the 2016 Summer Games in Brazil.
According to Marvez, the International Federation of American Football currently has 64 member nations, but that number figures to increase significantly now that it is related to the IOC.

Re: The International Federation of American Football
That's odd. Sweden did an outstanding job hosting the WWC in 2009. Finland had to pick up the ball when Canada dropped it in 2013. Turned out to be a good thing, too. The referee of the gold medal game in 2013 was the best football referee I've ever seen short of Jerry Markbreit. And I think she's Finnish, too....EPJr wrote:Sweden has reneged on their obligation to host 2015 Senior Championships

Re: The International Federation of American Football
The rules governing this leahue are EXTREMELY weighted towards nullifying the USA's advantage in the sport.
In league play in places like Germany and Australia, there is a rule that each roster can only carry one American player.
BTW Mexico has always had a pretty good squad, but if we were allowed to play even just DII college players we would destroy everybody.

You make it sound like it's an evil NEW rule. Canada has had such rules for what seems like forever, and I haven't heard of any complaints about that....CID1990 wrote:The rules governing this leahue are EXTREMELY weighted towards nullifying the USA's advantage in the sport.

just adding one reason that when it comes to international play we do not have a hands down advantage, and the rules that make it that way have relatives in most of the overseas leagues
theres a sh1tload of American players in the CFL so Im not sure what you mean

Re: The International Federation of American Football
EVERY player in the CFL is (North) American, at least that I know of. The league DOES have a limit on how many "imports" (read: US players) are allowed on each team. FYI, a Big Sky player rules the CFL at the moment and for the foreseeable future unless the NFL beckons.CID1990 wrote:i didnt imply anything of the sortSuperHornet wrote:
