NFL extends CBS and FOX deals through 2014 season

Post by dbackjon »

The National Football League has extended its deals with broadcast partners CBS and FOX through the 2014 season.

The separate two-year extensions Tuesday give CBS, which televises AFC games, the rights to broadcast the Super Bowl from New Orleans following the 2013 season.

“We are extremely pleased to extend this agreement as well as our successful partnership with the NFL, which continues to prove that NFL football is the premier property in all of sports and the number one-rated franchise in all of sports television,” president of CBS News and Sports Sean McManus said in a statement.

Fox will continue to televise NFC games and was awarded the rights to air the Super Bowl after the 2014 season.

“FOX Sports is pleased to have reached this two year broadcast rights extension with the NFL,” FOX Sports chairman David Hill said. “The NFL on FOX has been the centerpiece of the network’s big-event sports strategy for 15 years, and the NFC package is clearly the most-watched and highest-rated the NFL has to offer.”

The NFL also reached a deal Tuesday with Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable TV operator, to air the NFL Network on its second-most popular digital tier of service.
