First of all, the tournament field was revealed in the post immediately before yours.

Second, yeah - most people aren't as accurate predicting the Elite Eight - BECAUSE MOST BRACKETS ONLY LET YOU SELECT 8 TEAMS. I'm not aware of any brackets that let you select 12+ teams for the Elite Eight.
The teams in the tournament were known, not where they were slotted.

And again, in next year's March Madness, you can pick 12 teams who you think will be in the Elite Eight and let's see how many you miss on. I'll feel pretty comfortable you won't come close to getting all 8 Elite Eight teams, which is essentially what I did by picking 6 teams for the final four of the World Cup. I understand your reluctance to talk about that, seeing how you couldn't possibly admit I was right, and because it involves a little math. It's okay, I'll remember for the both of us.

1. Brazil
2.
3.
4.
5. Spain (yeah, real big gap between the hosts and everyone else)
6. Italy
And the rest of the list of teams I said are the only teams that have a chance of winning it? Oh yeah, I remember...
7. Argentina
8. Germany
9. Netherlands
So, apparently correct again. No other team other than the ones I listed are going to win this World Cup. What a shocker. Do you disagree, do you think someone other than what I listed will win the World Cup? Ghana maybe? Are you and dal related?

I filled out a bracket on ESPN and had all four semifinalists correct.

I know I'm not involved in this...but...

Going back to my last 4 years worth of brackets I'm averaging 6.36 correct Elite 8 teams per season.

On one bracket this year I had 7 and another I had 6

FWIW I am averaging 2.75 final four teams and 12.5 S16 teams

Could you do that 4 years out? My list of teams that could win the World Cup will be the same in 4 years from now as it was this year.

I could probably get two of the four next outing... Germany and Brazil.

While the individual games have been exciting, GF is correct that the four semifinalists were relatively predictable. I was hoping that someone (Chile, Columbia, etc.) would break through but it didn't happen. Game, set, match to GF. Better luck next time Skjelly.

For 2018, I think there will be a couple of outsiders with a shot at the semifinals - Belgium and Columbia in particular. I was impressed with Rodriguez and the rest of the Columbian roster. Belgium has a young, talented team and I could see them taking another step forward and contending in 2018 now that they have WC experience.

Great...the one I got 7 on I did first the other one was a throw away I did last minute.

For this coming season I could name 24 teams and the chances of at least 11 or 12 of them getting to the S16 is pretty high.

The Elite Eight with 12 teams listed? How close you want me to get? The chances of me getting 4-5 are pretty good

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Argentina isn't going to give up tons of space like Brazil did. They know how to stay compact and just shut things down. And they're very comfortable taking the game to extra time or PK's as well. It's not attractive soccer, but it's effective soccer. Besides, I think Germany tightens things up as well so that they don't get hit on counters with Messi. The final's going to look a lot more like the Argentina/Netherlands game than the Germany/Brazil one.

Finals definitely tend to be tight, cagey affairs. Too much at stake to risk opening yourself up with aggressive attacks.

I'm surprised it took Germany this long to win. I thought for sure an annexation of Rio was forthcoming after regular time ended.
