West is UGLY. Who the F do you root for? I think I'm pulling for the Blues. I own a Blues jersey, they are one of the expansion 6, have never won a Cup, have a good following of fans...

Anyone who roots for the Coyotes that's not from Arizona is an idiot.

They probably have some residual fans in Winnepeg.

I went to a Blues-Leafs game in the old St. Louis Arena once, when neither team was particularly good. That old barn rocked! :thumb:

Leafs... that's the one team I'd like to see win a Cup after the Flyers and Caps. Has there ever been a worse case of league expansion killing one team? Last Cup... 1967... the year the NHL expanded. The damn Hockey Hall of Fame is in Tornoto. :(

Last Stanley Cup Champion still in playoffs: NJ Devils, 2003.

If they lose to the Panthers tonight, you have to go back to the 1994 Rangers.

If both lose tonight, you have to go all the way back to the 1975 Flyers to get past Champion

None of the 4 WC teams left have ever won a Stanley Cup. Only LA and Stl have made the finals

So do the Caps play the Flyers now? Winner goes to the finals?

And why is that? Kings came in at same time as Blues.

Phoenix is a WHA team

depends on who wins tonight - highest remaining seed vs lowest remaining seed.

St Louis has ALWAYS supported the Blues. LA doesn't give a rats ass about the Kings unless it's May and they're still playing. Phoenix? They shouldn't even have a team. 12,420 fans per night? Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins average over 10k for God's sake.

Rangers win it's Caps/Rangers and Flyers vs Panthers/Devils winner
Senators win it would either be Flyers/Caps (Panthers win) or Flyers/Senators (Devils win).

Flyers got home ice in the Conference Finals two years ago as the 7 seed (vs Montreal #8). We could see something similar this year if Rangers go down tonight.

Settle the ownership issue and you will see attendance skyrocket in Phoenix

How long has that been an issue?

2001 - 27th
2002 - 29th
2003 - 29th
2004 - 19th
2005 - lockout
2006 - 22nd
2007 - 24th
2008 - 29th
2009 - 28th
2010 - 30th
2011 - 29th
2012 - 30th

2012 - 30th

Coyotes started playing in America West Arena, which was not built for hockey (many limited view seats).
First year in Jobing.com Arena, Coyotes shot up to 19th. Then the lockout. 22nd the next year. Then the ownership mess started in 2007-08

We will never be top 10, but top 20 is realistic if we ever get a committed owner.

Hey, hater....here's a knowledge drop for ya:
However, the Coyotes' home during their first eight years in Phoenix, America West Arena, was completely inadequate for hockey. Although considered a state-of-the-art arena when it was built for the Phoenix Suns basketball team, unlike most modern arenas it was not designed with a hockey rink in mind. The floor was just barely large enough to fit a standard NHL rink, forcing the Coyotes to hastily re-engineer it to accommodate the 200 foot rink. The configuration left a portion of one end of the upper deck hanging over the boards and ice, obscuring almost a third of the rink and one goal from several sections. As a result, listed capacity had to be cut down from over 18,000 seats to just over 16,000 — the second-smallest in the league at the time — after the first season.
And since 2005 there has been ownership issues. So, essentially the entire time the team has been in Phoenix there have been mitigating circumstances....top that off with building their new building out in East L.A. and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Look at me, defending a fucking HOCKEY team. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

 Wow, I'm seeing all kinds of excuses. Too small arena (even though they couldn't come close to filling it), ownership issues (even though I've never gone to a hockey game to see the owner), new rink too far from Phoenix (who's fault is that and again, if you couldn't fill a smaller arean in a better spot this is kinda moot)... it all adds up to support my position that Phoenix shouldn't have a team.

BTW, Edmonton has an arena that holds about 16,500. They average around 16,500.

The Oilers-Flames game I went to a few years back was nowhere near capacity. Place is kind of a dump, too.

We have another one: It's Phoenix, and hockey season is the best weather on the planet. Most places where they play hockey it's miserable outside, whereas in Phoenix during hockey season it's the best weather on the planet outside.

Did I mention it's the best weather on the planet during hockey season in Phoenix? :kisswink:

The fact that it's a dump makes the case in Phoenix even worse. Edmonton sells out every year.

Oh, and we have super bowls and bowl games and golf and the Phoenix Open and the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction and and and....

Truthfully, while I'm not a hockey fan, many who ARE fans of the sport refuse to put their support behind a team they think is leaving. Once that is settled, we'll get a better indication of how much support the team REALLY has.
