Agree to disagree on Argentina, I don't see them not advancing out that group.
If Donovan is acting like a slack ass again, hopefully Rooney will give him a good nut stomping circa 2006.

I don't see France doing dick this year, they qualified by the graces of God/FIFA. Ain't no way France is beating England, though I think you're spot on with your Holland prediction over the France/England winner. The way the bracket will break down, the winner of the Holland v Brazil game should have a clear shot to the finals IMO. You must hang out with my Dutch Coworker. He's got practically the same bracket.

Too bad Peru isn't in the WC. It would be great if Holland somehow beat Peru. Can you imagine the amount of sausage he'd receive?
Do Latin Americans feel some loose connection to the motherland Spain? I figured they'd pull for their own language at least. I'd pull for Ireland or England over pretty much anyone if the USA wasn't involved.
Not that I'm aware of, but who knows.
And if you were to pull for Ireland, then you should DEFINITELY be rooting against France. But they are the french anyways, so they suck at life and you're most likely routing against them anyways.
Group A: France, Mexico
Group B: Argentina, Nigeria
Group C: England, US
Group D: Germany, Australia
Group E: Nederland, Dänemark
Group F: Italy, Slovakia
Group G: Brasil, Ivory Coast
Group H: Spain, Switzerland
Round of 16:
France over Nigeria
Australia over England
Germany over US
Argentina over Mexico
Netherlands over Slovakia
Brasil over Switzerland
Denmark over Italy
Spain over Ivory Coast
Quarters:
Brasil beats Netherlands
Australia beats France
Germany beats Argentina
Spain beats Denmark

Affirmative. Not let me bow out of this thread. I hate soccer.

Argentina has some great players, but not a strong enough midfield to back up Messi. And they don’t gel as a team very well anyways. They were one of the last teams to qualify. But that’s an interesting group as I could see any 4 of them advancing (even SK if the other teams tie out a game or two and they pick up a lucky win). I won’t be surprised at all if Argentina puts it together finally and advances, and if they do I can see them advancing to the quarters/semis.
I just can’t count out France…they had no bidnezz being in the final last time around, yet there they were. Unlike England/Portugal/Holland who always seem to find a way to lose with one of the best teams in the field, they seem to find a way to win even if they aren’t at their best. I still hate them though.
I don’t hang out with the Dutch too often, cuz I don’t want my yoohoo painted gold.

What's your opinion on Altidore, 93? He says his ankle is fine, but will he start, 93? And if he doesn't, does Findley ( ) start, 93? I think Findley is good for some speedbursts in the last third of the game against a tired defense (especially without Big Bird Rio) but I don't want him starting. I'd rather see Buddle and Gomez in there if Altidore isn't starting, then throw in Findley and Alti towards the end. Oh yeah, and fuck you Ching! How does it feel to be watching the WC on the tele?!?! HA!

Maybe he and Rossi can get together to watch.
Nice. Fuck that guy for thinking he was better than the US. and fuck Ching because TT likes him so much.

Especially the Robbie Findley comments, in the Turkey game he was okay, but he was not very good in the Australia game. He has good ideas but he either pushes to hard on the pass or is way too hesitant and doesn't make the pass when he should. He was great for Real Salt Lake at the end of last year, but he has started slow this year and he has showed promise but hasn't done anything in the last few friendly matches.
I think Buddle played well and could receive some good feeds from Donovan. As for Gomez I am not as confident, but I still think he is better than Findley. I would rather an 85% Altidore be out there because even though he is a great striker he can move the ball around too.
I wouldn't even mind moving Dempsey forward later in the game if Altidore could not go the full 90.
I don't think they are a sleeper at all (unless you are picking them to win the whole thing ). They've got a very good squad with Kalou, the two Toures, Eboue, Zokora, Romarec, etc (how bad did I mispell some of those?). Drogba is definitely the spark for that team and if he plays I will not be surprised at all if they advance with Brazil in Group G. In fact, I might have to change my picks for that group if he is playing, even at 80% and with one arm in a sling He's that good. But MAN, he is such an ass.
Random question....of these 4 European powerhouse countries that have NOT won the World Cup or have not win it in 40+ years, which one do you think will do the best this year? Who will be the first out? Who will not even advance out of their group?
England
Holland
Portugal
Spain
Y'all can see my picks earlier in this thread (although, I might change my G group picks at the last minute). So you know I think Holland and Spain are finally going to play up to their potential with their two all-club rosters and make it to the final game. Portugal also has an amazing roster, but they played like doodoo through most of the qualifying, with about 85 tie games, and they just have no fire/desire when they play (and unlike an overrated France/Italy/Germany in any given year, they can't seem to pull out those grasping-for-straw wins). And I won't be TOO surprised if England gets bounced out of their group, although I expect Rooney to carry them through on the offensive end.

I agree with everything you said here.
World Cup just kicked off. To steal a stoic line from one of my favorite poet laureates:

I hate it for 3 years and eleven months out of every four years.
I know nothing about it, really. I watch on Telemundo (Tu Mundo!) because I like listening to the announcer have a hernia when Mexico scores.
11 players, 2 sides, 2 45-minute halves with no breaks, they kick a ball, some players dive and cry, average score is about 1.5 to .5. What else do you need to know?

Yes. How do you get .5? Is that when you kick it directly over the net like a field goal?

You know how averages work, don't you? After you figure that out, divide by 3.
