Yup, no problem with that. With the hotbed of soccer that is the Pacific Northwest, I'm fine with a late east coast start time to get a game in that kind of an atmosphere. Good win for a steadily improving US side.Grizalltheway wrote:The stadium was hosting a double header and I assume they needed time to transition between games. Hopefully the US does not fall into that trap.
Why does it have to be an 11:00 game?

My comment was more rhetorical than anything (but tough to tell online) but I did stay up for the game.GannonFan wrote:Yup, no problem with that. We need to be better defending set pieces and the hand ball in the box on Belize was a weak call but good overall effort by our B or C team.
Mexico didn't show up well for their first game and that may make things interesting if they don't win their group. Possibility that we could face them in the Quarters if they happen to wind up 3rd in their group but neither them nor Mexico's real A team has shown much over the last few months.
Winner of this Gold Cup will face the winner of the 2015 Gold Cup for a right to go to the 2017 Confederations Cup - if same team wins both, they are in.

Interesting that the USA made all four of their allowed roster changes while the rest of the QF teams only made 3 combined.

Game day! Expect nothing less than what we've been seeing. Bring on Mexico!
Re: US SOCCER
I hope the US can carry its momentum against Honduras, although there's no reason to doubt it won't. Unfortunately I'll be at the Nats game tonight, but I'll be sporting my US soccer gear!

US SOCCER ON TO THE HEX

The fourth round will see the three group winners and three runners-up from the third round compete in a double round robin, including a home and away match against the other five teams between 6 February and 15 October 2013. The round is informally referred to as the 'Hexagonal' or just 'The Hex'. The draw for the hex was conducted by FIFA on 7 November 2012.
The top three teams will qualify directly for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, while the fourth-placed team will play a home-away series against New Zealand, the winner of Oceania. Teams are ranked first by total points in all games, then, if tied, by best goal differential in all games, then by total goals in all games. If still tied, the same criteria are applied to games among the tied teams.
Intercontinental play-off
The fourth-placed team of CONCACAF will play OFC's first-placed team in a home-and-away play-off. The winner of this play-off qualifies for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Finals.
The first leg will be played on 13–14 November 2013, and the second leg will be played on 20 November 2013

At The Halfway Point,
The U.S. Sits On Top Of The Hex

The 10 points earned by the U.S. put them at the top of the table, two points clear of Costa Rica and Mexico with a game in hand on the Mexicans. Sitting in the pole position at this stage marks the first time the USA has led the Hexagonal at the halfway point since the 2002 qualifying campaign. This cycle has also been one of the most competitive in recent memory. The seven total draws in this year’s matches are already more than each of the previous three cycles combined.
Here’s where the MNT has stood at the halfway point of the Hex in each of the last five cycles:
2014 Hexagonal
1.United States – 13 points
2.Costa Rica – 11 points
3.Mexico – 8 points
4.Honduras – 7 points
5.Panama – 6 points
6.Jamaica – 2 points

Re: US SOCCER

The US national team’s record-setting winning streak is well intact, and Jozy Altidore’s summer just keeps getting better and better.
Altidore scored three goals and assisted on another in the span of 31 minutes in the second half Wednesday as the Americans rallied from a forgettable start to post a 4-3 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina in an international friendly at Asim Ferhatovic Hase Stadium in Sarajevo.
The US have now won 12 matches in a row dating back to a 4-3 win over Germany on June 2, the longest active winning streak in the world and the longest in USMNT history. The result also marked the first time the Americans have ever rallied from a deficit on European soil to post a win, improving their record to 3-2-1 in Europe since head coach Jurgen Klinsmann took over two years ago.

Horrible start to this game. Our defense is very sieve like in the first 10 minutes.
Hopefully like the 2-0 down against Bosnia, we can turn this around.
