Good question. Been thinking about this for a while.
I don't really know what I consider more important. But I do consider team medals more important. Even if it is a two-person team such as beach volleyball or diving or relays. The pressure of going for a medal AND not letting your teammate(s) down is difficult. But there is no breakdown of team medals that is easily found.

I read somewhere that the rest of the world considers the gold medal count to be the decider, while the US alone considers the overall medal count to be the decider.

This makes sense, as the gold medal count is the world's best chance to knock the USA off of its perch. Especially if they can stay ahead of the drug testing, like the Chinks. And let's not even get into the fact that China conscripts children to fill its Olympic roster.

But we won every color of medal in spite of all of that, so how's our ass taste again, world? Go fuck yourselves, losers.
