And I guess football has a marketing problem since I have to explain to girls all the time how many downs there are in football. Also, you're the clueless chick in this analogy... Just so you're clear.

So there's a game going on. Belgium is better, but we're not looking terrible. The longer we keep it 0-0 the more devastating a goal will be for us (i know, almost Madden-like, but still).
Belgians look quite beatable, despite outplaying us. Much better feeling than playing the Nazis last week.

Exactly. And it doesn't stop when the ball s out of bounds, which is frankly some bullshit.Skjellyfetti wrote:But, why is the clock counting up? WTF?!93henfan wrote:So there's a game going on. Extra time is two 15 minute periods
No golden goal.
If, at the end of that time, it's still tied it goes to PK

Actually I can live with that as long it is put back in play within a certain amount of time.93henfan wrote:Exactly. And it doesn't stop when the ball s out of bounds, which is frankly some bullshit.Skjellyfetti wrote:

But, again. Noone gives a shit if a bunch of old dudes don't like it.
Soccer isn't going to grow in this country by appealing to the "old crotchety man" demographic. It will expand by appealing to the 18-35 bracket. And, soccer is growing very very well in that age group... whether y'all like it or not.
They aren't counting on winning the NASCAR fans like BDK over.
So you are one of THOSE...asshattery will not make soccer more popular.
I'd love MLS to succeed, and the US leagues become considered the equals of the European Leagues. Douchebaggery and Soccer Snobbery is not the best way to go about it.

Which is why many NFL teams have Football 101 camps designed for women - the NFL understands marketing.

Our soccer league is much too socialistic to compete with the capitalist European Leagues.
Salary caps and designated player rules means that we'll never have teams that can match the top clubs in EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.
I'd love for it to be able to increase to European standards, but MLS has made a decision to make it a domestically focused league instead of an international league. That's just the way it is.

Shit, I'd rather a Hunger Games kinda thing where only one person lives instead of a cage match. Unless we're doing brackets for the cage matches where winner moves on to the next round. That would be enjoyable and quite a hoot.

We can discuss the format later. The thing we can all agree on now though is that thinning the herd is a good thing, amirite?bandl wrote:Can we throw JSO in the mix?93henfan wrote:

Damn it!
I almost made it through my first ever full half of soccer without getting bored and losing my attention span. I went 32 minutes before I drifted off. Not bad.
Maybe there will be scoring at some point.

What if time expires? How does one advance then? And does the clock count up or down?
