So you are one of THOSE...asshattery will not make soccer more popular.
I'd love MLS to succeed, and the US leagues become considered the equals of the European Leagues. Douchebaggery and Soccer Snobbery is not the best way to go about it.
MLS is built not to be ever be considered the equals of the European Leagues.
Our soccer league is much too socialistic to compete with the capitalist European Leagues.
Salary caps and designated player rules means that we'll never have teams that can match the top clubs in EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.
I'd love for it to be able to increase to European standards, but MLS has made a decision to make it a domestically focused league instead of an international league. That's just the way it is.
That's the American spirit.
So there has never been something copied in America that has been popular overseas with the idea that we could equal it or do it better? How did the PGA tour become the top "league"?
I almost made it through my first ever full half of soccer without getting bored and losing my attention span. I went 32 minutes before I drifted off. Not bad.
Maybe there will be scoring at some point.
I made it 31 minutes... and then gave up. And I only made it that far because my options were sitting at my desk doing work or watching the game in another office

How does paying our players less make our league better?

Not saying it will. But if the interest grew, the advertising dollars would also. Then there would be more money to pay for better players.
And there are very few people in America that can tell the difference in good professional players and average professional players. College sports are popular because of the alumni AND the competition on the field, and they are not the elite athletes of their sport. But the players don't have to be the only marketing tool. The sport and the team should play a role in the popularity as well.
