I trust the irony of a Yankee fan questioning the quality of someone else's 3rd starter isn't lost on you, JJ, is it? Who are you handing the ball to in Game 3 of the ALDS? Confident in your guy?
2009 World Series.

BTW, Bartolo Colon or Freddy Garcia. Both having excellent seasons. Yup, confident, especially if they are facing a light-hitting team, like the Phils. Not a guy in that line-up who frightens a good pitcher.

Well, so CC won't be frightened of anyone, but that's about it from the starting rotation of the Yanks. And if the Yanks are going to really stick with Colon and Garcia as the #2 and #3 guys come playoff time, sadly the Yanks won't even get past the ALDS, let alone get a chance at the NL champs Phils.

Joe...I'll see your Yankee ERA and raise you the BOSOX batting average (Red Sox are #1 at .280)...Yankees are TWENTY points behind at :260...

Your honor, I rest my case...

Yes, the Sox are hitting ... That will carry them to the playoffs. I think they need to find stability at the back of the rotation, and if they do, they'll be the overwhelming post-season favorites.

Let me remind you. Your team is from Philadelphia ( ) and they are the Phillies ( ).

The only team with more than 10,000 losses.

...despite the fact that according to the record, the Yankees are among the three best teams in baseball, they haven't got a prayer of getting to the World Series, let alone winning it, with their current pitching rotation.

People keep saying that, but Garcia and Colon keep going out there and getting great results. Colon threw 99 pitches the other night, 71 for strikes! He keeps hitting his spots, hitting 94-95 on the gun. Plus, after two hiccups after coming off the DL, he's right back in the groove. Garcia has batters off stride and has really developed into a finesse pitcher. I've seen him make some batters look really bad this year with location and off-speed stuff.

That being said, it would be nice if the Yankees added a pitcher to lengthen the rotation and make Colon a game 3 starter rather than a game 2 starter. Hughes pitched well yesterday, but he's still not in a groove, is making too many pitchers, and I don't like his ball/strike ratio.

But the Yanks also have Ivan Nova at Triple AAA. This guy was getting better with every start and, on most teams, would be a reliable 4-5 starter type right now. That speaks to some depth of the Yankee rotation. The problem is that the Yankees go from a clear No. 1 guy, to two guys who be No. 3 on a World Series winner.

Realistically, I don't see the Red Sox blowing this lead. I see them winning tomorrow night with Beckett on the mound.

I see them haunted by the ghost of Calvin Schiraldi.

haha wow, thats amazing that everybody knows that play because of Bill Buckner but I think some people obviously including myself do not remember who the pitcher was.

Anyway, after tonight and what I said earlier, I hate to say I told you so. :ohno:

Boston has a better chance of overtaking NY than TB does of overtaking Boston.

thats the benefit of still having 7 games vs baltimore and the Yankees having 7 against Tampa. For TB to catch Boston they need to beat the crap out of the Yankees, but at that point with Boston playing Baltimore, if TB does that the Sox will pass the Yankees and TB will be duking it out with NY for the WC.

On the other hand, the Yankees will likely have a playoff spot wrapped up before they play the last three games of the season at Tampa, which means the Yankees will be resting starters against a team that will need to win to get past the Sox.
