Yeah, that fight song is bad. However, the team was named the Redskins and it was not an attempt to disparage Indians.89Hen wrote:I'm about as far from a PC nazi as anyone, but your position makes no sense to me.Ibanez wrote: It's common sense and based off some reading I did on team names.White men named the team, so it is vulgar, yet honors them. Yes, That's according to a few histories i've read on the Washington Redskins. Same goes for the Patriots. Should we changed the Vikings name? How about the Pirates? Buccaneers?89Hen wrote:No, it was to honor them.Ibanez wrote:Yeah, that fight song is bad. However, the team was named the Redskins and it was not an attempt to disparage Indians.

AFAIK, there are no Patriots, Vikings, Pirates or Buccaneers living other than Somali pirates and I don't see this guy on the logo...

BTW, stop reading Dan Snyder history.

It's clear you aren't going to be swayed so let's move on. What do you think the new will be when it's changed?Ibanez wrote:Patriots and the ancestors of Vikings still exist.

Something that resembles the location, history and tradition of the team and/or Washington. I doubt it would be something like the Senators. How about the Washington Colonials?89Hen wrote:It's clear you aren't going to be swayed so let's move on. Not a bad option. Any new name sucks at first. I was not a fan of the name "Nationals" at first, but I like it now. No, but do you think it's OK for a person who grew up in the 50's to refer to blacks as 'colored'. Keep in mind that they grew up not thinking it belittled or disparaged blacks... that's just what they were called.DSUrocks07 wrote:Are you saying they did it to intentionally belittle and disparage Native Americans?

I'm not sure what he was looking for. Many people today are so far removed from their ancestral heritage. You see those 4 names up there Jon? 5 Of them are in the family tree. 5 of them repeat many, many many times. I don't give a fuck what percentage she is.
