Would the Yanks mind tanking some games against Tampa to keep Boston out of the playoffs?

Yeah, quite a dilemma for Yankee fans. We win we wrap up the division but keep TB from catching the red sox. Yank lose and they risk wrapping up the division and allow the rays to possibly catch the red sox.

The Red Sox aren't going to be sitting at home tomorrow because of 7 games in April. They are sitting at home tomorrow because of their complete shit performance in September.

Really? So if they'd gone 2-6 instead of 1-7 they'd have just lost one more game in September to make up for it?

My point is the came into September leading the AL East.... they cant use a slow start in April as an excuse, its all on their pathetic September performance.

I was at a pub watching the Sox take the lead and then saw the Rays score so I texted a friend of mine (Sox fan) that they had it in the bag and the Sox are in the playoffs. He was heading into a movie so I figured it would be a good idea to ease his mind. Needless to say I get a really pissed off call from him and then I hopped on the interwebs to find out how it all went down. Epic.

BS. They play 162 for a reason. Every game counts and they didn't start their season until about April 12th. Big mistake.

If they even played .250 ball in September they are in the playoffs.. They couldnt even do that.... April means shit.... this team is not in the playoffs because of SEPTEMBER not a game from the first week of the season.

Marked this gem from NESN back in January:

2011 Red Sox Will Challenge 1927 Yankees for Title of Greatest Team in Major League History

The Red Sox have no intention of suffering a similar fate. The way they are constructed, they could surpass the 116-win mark, but nothing less than a World Series title will make Boston happy.

The 2011 Red Sox possess all the pieces to have a season for the ages. If everything falls into place and the breaks go their way, they could do more than set records and become champions. They could do more than take their place on Immortality Peak and end up being mentioned in the same sentence as legendary clubs of the past: the 1929 A’s, the epic Yankees teams of the ‘30s, the 1970 Orioles, the 1976 Reds.

The 2011 Red Sox could accomplish a feat that has never been done. They could unseat the 1927 Yankees as the greatest major league team of all time.
