Funny story my old high school coach told me.citdog wrote:i could have stopped that damn Furman scum Dempsey's shot with the schmckle. that was a gift.....or perhaps Yahweh is making up for Banastre Tarleton
He played for El Citadel when Thompson Usiyan played for Appalachian (all time NCAA men's leader is goals scored) and said one time in Boone, Usiyan shot it so hard that it knocked the El Cit keeper back into the goal with the ball in his hands and it counted.

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
A tie is as good as a win. I didn't think we had any chance of getting any points from this game. I can't wait for the next game.

Algeria's goalie also had a ridiculous goal given to Slovenia:

Some media reaction from the game yesterday:
Washington Post:
Daily Mirror:
Green - "I'm a man. I'm 30".

Haha he certainly has been in this situation before:

Dempsey hit one and it's one I should have saved....Full stop. It's very disappointing, but it's happened. The most important thing is not to let it affect myself.
I found before we left for the game when they announced the team, with everyone else. It wasn't a factor. I prepared the same as if I was going to play. I prepared the same as if I was at West Ham, as I have done all my career.
I've been in this situation before and it's about holding your head up high, facing you guys [the media], taking the flak which is going to come. That's life.

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
Other than the fanfare and national anthems, Internation soccer tends to be a little boring once the games start, but even this World Cup is in danger of setting an awful record for fewest goals scored in a World Cup, and by a healthy margin. There were 147 goals scored in 2006, but we're on pace for just 105 in this tournament. And even the 147 were low compared to the 161 and the 171 goals scored in the prior two World Cups. Some of this is just painful to watch.

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
Brazil finally went up 1-0 over North Korea with a great shot from the sideline in between the goalie and the post by Maicon. In all likelyhood this means that the entire North Korean team will be put down following this match. Thus the 'Group of Death'.
Anyone see that frickin' laser beam that Ronaldo blasted off the post from 30 yards out? Wowzers.
And how about them Kiwi's scoring in the 93rd minute to tie it up? Woot woot! Love to see them finally score a goal and get a point at a World Cup.

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
I got a question for you soccer faggs. Why do games go over 60 minutes? Who's running the clock?
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."
