So who am I suppose to root for in 1967, as a 9 year old kid, Tigers lose pennant on last day, Lakers with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor lose to Celtics, Black Hawks make semi finals, Packers won Super Bowl. These are the teams that were on TV in the middle of the North American continent. Still pull for them today, 50 years later.89Hen wrote:Gil Dobie wrote:My personal teams... Detroit... Lakers... Your closest team. I don't have the dates of franchises in front of me, but Detroit and Chicago certainly had baseball and hockey so it seems odd to mix and match them. Pretty sure the North Stars became a franchise in 1967, the same year my Flyers were born. Twins were a team in the early 60's. Milwaukee Bucks were in the 60's...Gil Dobie wrote:So who am I suppose to root for in 1967, as a 9 year old kid, Tigers lose pennant on last day, Lakers with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor lose to Celtics, Black Hawks make semi finals, Packers won Super Bowl. Closest hockey channels came from Winnipeg, 75 miles away, so I became a Bobby Hull fan. All I remember is Chicago, Montreal, Detroit and Toronto on TV back then. I liked Al Kaline and Bart Starr. Never had local MLB or NFL teams on TV back then, Detroit and Green Bay were good, so they were on TV more than other teams. Twin Cities were over 400 miles away, so when the WHA started, Winnipeg was the closest team, and I liked them when they signed Bobby Hull. Stayed a Black Hawks fan though.89Hen wrote:Your closest team. So as a kid, did all your friends like different teams? If so, that's too bad IMO. That's what it's like today thanks to video games and fantasy sports. Common sports teams interests really binds kids together, something they can always fall back on.Gil Dobie wrote:Closest hockey channels came from Winnipeg, 75 miles away, so I became a Bobby Hull fan. Even still today I tell the kids they're main rooting interests are the local teams (i.e. Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers, although we're not a hockey household). They can like or follow other teams for variety (with the exception of any New York team and the cowboys - that is just not allowed) but their real teams are the Philly ones.89Hen wrote:So as a kid, did all your friends like different teams? One was a Dodger fan, one a Cardinals fan, a few Twins here and there. Our little league team had many different team caps. We lived in a town of less than 500 people. We played baseball in the park, then went swimming when the pool opened. Most of us played basketball in the winter and skated on off nights. Too small for a football team but we played that in the park in the fall. Bonded over sports, not the teams.89Hen wrote:So as a kid, did all your friends like different teams? We did that too, but I guess the difference is that I was talking about kids outside your immediate sphere. Our little league had a dozen teams in each age group in one league with kids who went to different schools.Gil Dobie wrote:One was a Dodger fan, one a Cardinals fan, a few Twins here and there. We played against other towns. Only 1 school per town.89Hen wrote:We did that too, but I guess the difference is that I was talking about kids outside your immediate sphere. Our little league had a dozen teams in each age group in one league with kids who went to different schools.Gil Dobie wrote:

Re: 2017 Wentzadelphia Eagles Thread
It's not bad, it's just different. Growing up in a small town in Iowa, most people tended to cheer for teams from St. Louis, Chicago, Kansas City and Minneapolis while some kids followed other teams that were enjoying success at the time. My friends who grew up Dolphins fans are still Dolphins fans. We didn't talk/argue about our favorite players on the local team but instead talked about why our team and it's players were better than our friends'.89Hen wrote:So as a kid, did all your friends like different teams? Rut roh.
Local Philly station reporting Zach Ertz is OUT (hammy) today. I sent Grizza a PM to fix his fantasy lineup. Hope he gets it in time.
Also, they're wearing the jinx (i.e. black) jerseys today.

First drive and TD pass to Jeffery was some Favre-type shit from Wentz.

Three drives, three scores, two Wentz TD passes. Life is good.

Add a third TD pass for Wentz on the play after UD's own Zach Kerr roughs him.

Welcome to Philly, Oluwadamilola Jonathan Ajayi! 46 yard TD run in his debut.
Eagles just walking all over the NFL's top defense. 31-9 and not yet halftime. Wentz might get to take another fourth quarter off.

Wentz gets another fourth quarter off. Eagles dominate. Nay, they ass-rape the Broncos and their formerly #1 defense.
8-1 headed into the bye.

Seriously, though, the Eagles are looking fucking awesome this year. Wentz has improved and the receivers dont drop half the passes. I am hoping the Cowboys can step up and make a game of it.93henfan wrote:Yeah, the Cowboys are scary. I doubt the Eagles will even show up.Vidav wrote:
