MrTitleist wrote:Az, you need to watch Tulo play. If you do, you'll see why he's in this conversation. The guy probably has one of the strongest arms in the majors, he doesn't make mistakes in the field, his fielding is ... awesome. He's a good hitter, especially this month. If it wasn't for Helton, he'd be the Rockies captain. He's done everything he has this year w/ two stints on the DL.
Nobody wins MVP because they have a "good arm". Period. And believe me, I have the unfortunate opportunity to watch him 16 times a year (including right NOW) as they're in the Diamondbacks' division.... :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

Who would you put a head of him?
As far as shortstops go, nobody.

Because Tulo's been "awesome" for exactly 3 weeks. Before that he was average at best.
2007: .291 AVG, 24 HR, 99 RBI, 7 SB, .987 FLD, 5.6 WAR
2009: .297 AVG, 32 HR, 92 RBI, 20 SB, .986 FLD, 6.8 WAR
2010: .322 AVG, 26 HR, 89 RBI, 10 SB, .984 FLD, 5.3 WAR

He's been doing it for three years now, he was injured for half of 2008.

I think AZ is referring to this year only and this years MVP vote. Prior to Tulo's explosion in September he was not having an MVP type season. September has put him in the running, but I don't see him winimg it, especially if the Rockies miss the playoffs.

You may be right, but it sounded as though he was saying Tulo wasn't a good player and not a top SS.

Yet, he has not answered who he would take ahead of Tulo

Again, you're missing my point. Prior to 9/1, Tulo was AVERAGE.

And it's irrelevant anyway, because anytime you've got THREE players, ALL of whom are in contention for the triple crown, Tulo will be an afterthought. He's not even in the same league as those three.

clenzy, right now there isn't anybody. On 8/31, there were about 6 guys I'd have taken prior to Tulo. :coffee:

That's why they don't award MVPs in August.

I don't really care if he hit .150 for the first few months of the season. Fact is, he is batting .322 right now with great numbers. If he had to bat .800 for the last month to get there, so what? His season average, over the course of 162 games is .322.

You said "Let's see him do it for a full season." And I showed you that he did it for a full season in both 2007 and 2007, and is doing it again in 2010. Keep in mind, a broken wrist isn't exactly the easiest thing for a hitter to come back from and Tulo is a notoriously slow starter.
