yeah - and he's been a hell of a pitcher for the Twins. Turns out he just doesn't like pitching for the ungrateful douchebags in the Bronx.
17-11 with a 3.75 ERA last season - 1.195 WHIP 3.16 K/BB ratio... guys been a revelation... maybe it wasn't him... maybe it was you...
Carl Pavano.
Yankees # 3 starter, AJ Burnett - 10-15 with a 5.26 ERA - 1.511 WHIP 1.86 K/BB ratio. Makes you yearn for the days of Carl Pavano in pinstripes, as bad as that was.

2009 World Series.
Burnett gives up one run in 7+ innings in Game 2. Yankees never look back.

The day D1B wins one of those threads will be the day the Twins beat the Yankees in post-season series, or the Phillies beat the Yankees in a World Series.
But at the moment, like D1B in those threads, you guys are O-fers against the Yankees.

The Twins and Phillies will still be 0-fer against the Yankees in playoff series after 2011, because they can't beat a team that isn't in the playoffs.

You realize the Yankees will win the World Series this year?

World Seris of Poker? Some of them are poker players? Who knew? Of course, with that starting rotation they have we should've known - that's a classic bluff if I've ever seen one.

The Yankees are flush with cash and quality talent in their farm system. If they need pieces, and they don't have the answer in the system already, they are in position to get the answer. The roster that plays in October is never the the opening day roster.
The Phils and Sox spent a lot of money this off-season, but didn't really improve in the areas they needed to improve, despite all the excitement.

As opposed to the Yankess who didn't improve in any area.

In fact, the Yankees improved in the bullpen by getting Soriano. This gives them a lock-down 8th-9th combination and will also prevent something that happened too much last year -- Rivera coming in the 8th.
The Yanks return MLB's most productive offense in 2010 -- scary when you consider that so many had "down" years in 2010 -- and an excellent defensive team.
Plus, I think you will see Fausto Carmona in pinstripes by June. He pitched over 200 innings last year and looked to be recovered from his two prior injury-plagued seasons.

Yeah...no, they're not. There's more of a chance of the Yankees missing the playoffs than them winning the World Series.

down years? its called getting older... and thts what the offense is getting....
thats fine on Carmona.... Boston will already be walking away with the division by then.
And what is it with the Yankees and their fans always getting excited over pitchers with career losing records. Heck take out his only good season and he is 27-43 in his career....
The Sox are weak up the middle, at CF, C, and SS. C is a huge problem. You can carry a bad offensive catcher if his defense is respectable. But the Sox are extremely weak at C, both offensively and especially defensively. You don't win championships being so weak up the middle, especially at the C position.
The Yanks grabbing Russell Martin, when the Sox thought they were going to get him, has been overlooked. But that move was more significant than most everyday fans grasp.

If the farm system is that strong why don't the Yankees actually develop their talent? Bernie Williams, Derek Jeter, Mariano, and Jorge are the only "true Yankees" that are worth a damn I can think of.

CF is weak?
Jed Lowrie will start more games at SS than Scutaro in 2011... and Lowrie will hit 20 HRs and outperform Jeter across the board.
Sure Catcher is a spot you look at with a bit of concern, but Salty and Tek will combine for 25-30 HR
You should be more concerned with the Yankees offense than the Red Sox'
