Better than last year at this time, when all we heard about was LeBrick James. I can't wait for Jeter to take his talents to 3000 hits.andy7171 wrote:ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

That list was Yankee-specific. Of COURSE I'd put the Wizard of Oz at the top of the list. The problem is, I'd also have to put Concepcion near the top, too. I admit being biased for my BRM, but that's the way I roll.Gil Dobie wrote:WagnerSuperHornet wrote:1. Rizzuto

The Yankees of the late '90s were so much better than the BRM.

I don't think Jeter has ever ended a playoff series with one swing of the bat.

So you are deciding who the best of all time is based on one swing of the bat?SuperHornet wrote:I don't think Jeter has ever ended a playoff series with one swing of the bat.
(Using your logic, Todd Pratt is one of the top catchers of all time.

No. I just don't like Jeter. In most cases, I'll take the older guy on principle alone. Hence Grif Sr over Jr, Bobby over Barry, etc. It's not just Yankees. It's a general rule. Young guys tend to be punks, and that holds here as well.

That's OK, 86. You've always been one of the better guys who's in the "disagree with SH" camp.

Re: Derek Jeter's 3,000th Hit
There is no credible argument to say that Jeter is not a HOFer.
There is no legitimate reason to dislike him either. Never gets in trouble off the field. Played through the steroid era clean and played through the free agency period loyal to one team.

Re: Derek Jeter's 3,000th Hit
Derek Jeter just became the 28th player in baseball history to record 3,000 hits. He homered to left against the Rays' David Price. He is only the 5th player to record his 3,000th hit in fewer than 17 full seasons, joining Ty Cobb, Pete Rose, Hank Aaron and Stan Musial.
He is simply the greatest player of this generation.

How many times did Jeter win the golden snow shovel?JoltinJoe wrote:andy7171 wrote:What's with all the HOF talk, he's not even the best short stop on his own team!
In this video, Bob Ryan discusses where Jeter ranks within the heady group of the 3,000 hit club. Ryan says Jeter is a better player than: Yaz, Molitor, Murray, Ripken, Biggio, Brock, Palmiero, Kaline, Boggs. I think he is also plainly better than Yount (this one had to be an oversight on Ryan's part), Winfield, Henderson, and Rose. (BTW: Notice, I am being 100% serious with this analysis).
BTW, with the exception of Palmiero (a dirty Bird cheater), these guys are all first ballot HOFers.![]()

Re: Derek Jeter's 3,000th Hit
If Jr had managed to stay as healthy as Jeter (and yes, I realize that longevity factors into 'greatness'), it wouldn't even be a discussion. Factor in my personal bias, and it ISN'T a discussion.

When Bill James rates Chipper Jones the No. 1 baseball player of all-time at peak value, let me know.
