And Chris Young just hit a game winning 3-run HR in the bottom of the 10th...his first HR since 7/3 (114 AB's).... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Just wait till he "gets his feet wet"
He's only been in, what, 10 games so far. Wait till he gets comfortable. :thumb:
I think he will provide "viewing pleasure" for years to come.

Here's some off the wall trivia
Mike Schmidt (crappy 1st 2 seasons btw) Ohio University Bobcats
Paul Goldschmidt Texas State University Bobcats

You could put a bug in the DBacks ear. Our 1B this year - Kalenkosky - hit 21 HR. The school record (36) is held by Goldy....3 seasons. Kalenkosky did not sign with the Nationals, so is coming back. He has a good shot @ that record in 2 seasons.

I think he is too small for a MLB 1B but he also sets up behind the plate.

Jeff McVaney (OF/DH/LHP) removed himself from the draft this year (I know the backstory) and has 20 HR in 2 seasons. He will likely end up in the top 3 all time. Kid played ball in the Cali summer league (2 yrs running). Was the Cali League MVP last year and the Hitter of the Year, this year.

Goldschmidt for ROY?

Sure. If he hits about 20 more HR's in the last 30 games....gets about 75 RBI and hits .300. Something tells me that ain't gonna happen.

The kid has only been up for 3 weeks. Too bad, though. Got called up so can't get the Minor Leave POTY and too late to make a legit run for ROY.

So Goldy gets 2 HRs against the Phillies and accounted for their only runs in 2 games, so they go on to Atlanta and they bench him?

Seriously, how many other MLB teams platoon @ 1st base? I just don't get the strategy...thinking behind doing this.

Sometimes managers put too much stock in performance vs XHP.

Maybe next year. In spite of my post, I finally looked this up.

Qualifying for ROY:
The current standard of 130 at bats, 50 innings pitched or 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club (excluding time in military service or on the disabled list) before September 1 was adopted in 1971.

The official MLB blurb:
Determining rookie status:
A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).

He is excluded this year (he wouldn't have the numbers anyway) but will qualify in 2012.

He's been in the bigs 26 days and has 69 AB's. There's a VERY good chance he goes over 130 by the end of the year...I hope not, but it might be what's required for the D-Backs to win the division....
