BTW, the first team that needs to move (and probably will) is the Islanders. Nassau County has done nothing to keep them. :ohno:

OK, false alarm. Not surprising...

Let’s be clear here, there’s almost zero chance Katz can move the Oilers out of Edmonton. The NHL’s Board of Governors would never vote in favor of that given what the City of Edmonton is willing to put in for a new downtown arena. The board, I believe, would simply never see any merit in any reason for a move.

This is all about Katz gaining some leverage in his dealings with the City of Edmonton, wanting to get a better deal for himself with the new rink.

Hartford probably does suck, but they still have passionate fans & the franchise has been gone for 15 years. The Islanders have been my favorite team since I was 7 years old, but even I don't understand how that franchise continues to survive.

Not so sure about Portland. Seems like more of a baseball/soccer town.
The only way Portland gets an NHL team is if Paul Allen is in on it. He owns the Rose Garden (the Blazers arena) and that is the only place in Portland that can hold an NHL game. But the deal is that Allen does not want the NHL here in competition with the Blazers. We could have had either Calgary or Pittsburgh here if Allen would have been even remotely interested, but he is not.

They do? They averaged around 12,000 fans over the life of the Whalers. NHL average was somewhere around 16k.

The Connecticut Whale in the AHL is averaging 4,500. They were 23rd in the league last year.

I'm not seeing it.
