What is the S word? Sqaw? Savage? I know many Native Americans of the Cherokee and Wassmasaw tribes who aren't as thin skinned as others. Just sayin...alyssa wrote:We call it the "R word". It is the worst word to us American Indians who know what it means. Not all American Indians know what it means for different reasons. I've spoken about it before. I've written a non-published book on it in which to teach from. I really don't want to go into it all though. It is a very derogatory racist word. It can have different meanings but when applied to humans is not good.
It can be who we are once we have been skinned for genocidal purposes. Many Indigenous people were eliminated and the skins were taken or just the scalps or genitals and easily stored (whole bodies require more space) as proof of removal by genocide until the men who committed these crimes were paid.
That's what it means to a lot of us who are indigenous persons. The word should never be used. It is bad medicine to do so.
Then there's that "S word" that many Indigenous females are called that is the worst word that can be used when speaking about females.
Now I'm sure I've pissed off a lot of persons for "speaking up", but I have to defend us because I'm protective of disappearing Indigenous cultures.
There is only 1 person who speaks fluent Wichita that I know.
She is beautiful.
