Sweden (1-2) d. Spain (0-3) 64-0 in the 5th/6th Place Classification Game early this morning. I sort of figured on this, as Sweden did OK against Germany in a loss, while Spain couldn't handle ANYBODY.

Host Finland (2-1) d. Germany (1-2) 20-19 for the Bronze Medal this morning.

USA (2-0) and Canada (2-0) just kicked off for the Gold. Canada was moving the ball (mainly due to a US pass interference penalty on a fade route), but had to punt. American QB Sami Grisafe was immediately sacked, but then a spread read option took the ball 70-some-odd yards inside the Canadian 5. Then West Coast Conference Assistant Commissioner of Championships and Administration Mia Brickhouse took it over on an iso play out of the I formation. A pass got the 2-pt conversion, and USA is up 8-0 with just under 7 minutes left in the first quarter.

I'm having to deal with a Finnish announcer. Both the English and Finnish language options apparently default to the Finn. So, if you guys care, you can watch for your self at http://www.wwc2013/wwctv if you care to deal with not understanding the commentator. You CAN, of course, mute it. ;)

At the half in the Gold Medal Game, it is 36-0 in favor of the Americans. The game has been skewed somewhat by Canada's loss of their change-of-pace quarterback to injury. Canada is occasionally getting something going (they had a 19-yard run off-tackle before the half), but then stall because the O-Line is often not doing their job en masse. The remaining Canadian QB has a fairly decent arm, and is throwing a lot of fades, but the O-Line isn't helping much, so the throws aren't always on target. When she does have time, though, the plays are good, as evidenced by a great catch over the middle with tight US coverage. The US offense is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Canada, from a tight I to the spread read option to The Duck (a modified Swinging Gate). That one went huge for a 60-yard TD on a seam route away from the big bunch, though the Canadians DID almost pull the sack on that one.

Overall, Team Canada is doing better than just about anyone else, but are being hampered by a key injury and bad O-Line play. We'll see if they can straighten that out in the second half.

It's a final. Team USA wins the Gold as expected, 64-0 over Canada.

Canada had several impressive plays, but were not able to string them together. Near the end, the QB just barely overthrew a receiver on a fade route that would have been a sure six, and then an incredible pass play to the right down to the US 10 was called back for holding.

Guard Jen Menzyk from the Chicago Force was named MVP. Not sure how that happened.

Awards are out.

Retiring Chicago Force QB Sami Grisafe has been named WCC Tournament MVP.

Finland has won the Fair Play Award, as they were the least penalized team. Team Canada was the most penalized in terms of most penalties; Team USA lost the most yardage due to penalties.

Team Spain didn't do so hot at the Women's World Championships in Vantaa, Finland, but they certainly had fun.

Some of the game officials on a break from other tournament games did it, too.
