No one cares though. The Super Bowl is the #1 prize in football. Nothing else comes close. :coffee:

Baseball and softball were dropped from the Olympics. Both of those sports are played by many countries, some of whom can beat the U.S. If those two sports can make it in the Olympics there is no way football has a chance. I'd be surprised to see football get a shot as a demonstration sport, but if it does it will likely be one-and-done.

And SH, if a gold medal is the highest football award out there, why aren't you encouraging Tim Tebow to go for it? Tebow, with your support, is all in with the NFL. Shouldn't you be pushing for him to play IFAF football?

There's a fallacy in your argument, 86. The US National basketball teams and the men's hockey team all draw their players from the major US professional leagues. Thus, it makes sense for Tebow to play in the NFL....

Those sports got dropped because Europe, who have a disproportionate amount of influence in the Olympic movement, didn't really play those sports. Same with American football, hence why it will never be in the Olympics.

It has nothing to do with actually playing the sport. Every one of those countries also play baseball and softball, but they play it in such small participation numbers that they don't care about it. Same as American Football - of course they have some people in their countries that play it, but those numbers are dwarfed by the total population. And it's also easier to stay an Olympic sport than it is to start as a new one - if baseball couldn't hold on after being included for multiple olympiads then american football has no prayer.

The US and Canada are the only countries that seriously play American Football.
The Japs acutally did pretty well in the last international tournament, IIRC.
They've had a league sine the 1970s but are they really good? A former roommate of mine went to play in the X league and he said it was so bad.
Turns out I might be a little gay. 89Hen 11/7/17

Japan and Germany could field "teams", that's probably about it

I know there's some annual game that the Japan All-Stars play against US college players. Dustin Dloughy from UM played in it

I think it's been said in this thread,I know fora fact in this forum, that most foreign leagues limit their teams to less than 3 American players...and at most one on the field at a time...most of the good hs teams in America would win at the highest level internationally

:bs:

Japan has been a serious contender on the men's side from the beginning, as ep will tell you. Mexico has also done fairly well, particularly in the game they play against D-III all-stars. On the women's side, Germany actually scored on the US this year.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
