The old Patrick Division is an interesting one early this year with the Islanders at 12 points and 5 other teams within 2 points of them and another team 2 points back. Only Carolina is (un?)officially eliminated with 2 points through 8 or 9 games.

Interesting that the Rangers are 3-0 against the Western Conference and only 2-4 against the East.

Take out the 2 teams now in last place in the Metropolitan Division and you have the old Patrick Division.

Promise I'll only mention the Original Six if they match up in the Stanley Cup or if 3 of 4 make it to the Conference finals (can't be 4 of 4 since Detroit moved east)

On a somber note, Gordie Howe is recovering from a stroke.

Quit your whining. Your Wings got a point that they were 7 seconds away from missing. Rangers had just lost back to back shootout games so it was good to get the 2 points there.

If you watched the game, did you see how Gustavsson got hurt at the end of the game? I watched the play a number of times and can't tell how he got hurt. Possibly landing funny as he was diving for the puck - very fluky.

They also need to fix the review rule for goals. The teams played for a good 1 1/2-2 minutes so after the Wings scored even though many in the arena could see it right away. The booth should just review and blow the horn when they see the goal went in. It was an unnecessary waste of a lot of time to let them keep playing if it is going to get called in anyway.

I can't tell on gustavsson.

I watched the play and 20 times and i think it was how he landed.

I haven't looked today, did release what the injury was?

Looked and saw that he has a separated shoulder and will be out for a few weeks at least. He seemed to be holding the upper arm when he finally skated off.

Apparently Wings called up a backup Petr Mrazek.

Yeah, I remember paying 50 bucks a pop for literal last row seats in Edmonton to watch the Battle of Alberta. :x

Final day of the season (and a few games already played) and a number of things still to be decided.

Rangers win the President's Trophy and home ice throughout
Washington will play NYI in the 1st round but home ice depends on NYI's final game vs. Columbus

In the Atlantic, Montreal and TB finish first and second but the order is still up in the air. If Mtl gets a point or if they lose and TB fails to win, Montreal is 1.
If Detroit wins or loses in OT/SO, they get 3rd. Otherwise, it goes to Ottawa.

Eastern WC is as follows.
- Ottawa or Det gets the 1st WC and will play the Atlantic winner.
- Pitt leads Boston by 1 point to get the 2nd WC and face the Rangers. Not sure what happens if Boston wins and Pitt loses in OT/SO. They will have the same Regulation/OT wins. Pitt wins if they lose in regulation and Boston loses in OT.

Out West:
Anaheim and St. Louis both have 107 points and win their division but Anaheim leads the home ice advantage by 1 more ROW. Not sure what happens if Anaheim wins in SO and St. Louis wins in regulation/OT

In the Central:
Nashville has the 2 seed
Chicago should get the 3 seed unless Minnesota can come back in the 3rd (down 2) against St. Louis in which case, Chicago will need a point

In the Pacific
Vancouver and Calgary will play each other but home ice will depend on games today though Calgary is losing now by 3 so Vancouver should get the home ice.

For the West WC
Likely Minnesota getting the 1st WC and will play the worse division winner
Winnipeg has the final WC and will play the #1 seed in the West

East playoff matchups are all set

#1 Rangers vs. WC2 Pittsburgh - NYR won season series 3-0-1 and Pitt has lost 12 of its last 17 games.
#2 Washington vs. #3 Islanders - Season series split at 2 with Isles winning 2 in OT and Caps 1 in SO. Caps get home ice advantage due to Isles losing a lead with 1:30 to go today and losing in a SO

#1 Montreal vs. WC1 Ottawa - Senators won season series 3-1 and has won 6 of 7
#2 Tampa vs. #3 Detroit - TB won season series 3-1 with 1 SO win. Detroit 8 wins in last 21 games

West waiting for some games to finish before seeds are set

Not that it really matters, but ESPN also said "series tied 2-0-2" and that's not correct. Caps were 2-0-2, Isles were 2-1-1 so Caps got 6 points and Isles got 5. :ugeek:

Scratch that, my sources have informed me that they regressed horribly from last season and finished 9 points out of a playoff spot.

Playoff hockey is great.

Nashville/Chicago going to second OT in a game with a lot of action in the OT but goalies were on fire. How late can this go?

Other interesting game was the Canadiens beating Ottawa 4-3 despite losing P.K Subban in the middle of the 2nd for a 5 minute/game misconduct for a tough slash that should have been a 2 minute penalty. During the 5 minute major, Ottawa had 2 goals and Mtrl had 1.

I agree. Should of been a two minute penalty. Stones very quick exit to the locker room after flopping like a fish out of water seemed a little "pre-planned" by the Ottawa player/staff. These two teams already do not like each other so the future games should be real entertaining.
