They've been playing much better under Riggleman, and they have a bundle of promising young players. The Phils have won 12 straight against them, but most have been nail-biters.

Coming in to this series, the Nats we 21-25 in their last 46 games. Not good, but light years better than the start of the season when were challenging the all time single season futilty mark. They have added a lot of good arms to their bullpen. seems like every guy they bring in to a game has a sub 3 era. They also always seem to play the Phillies tough.

Having said that, I'd still rather face them than almost anyone else in the majors right now. Even the doormat Pirates won 2 or 3 against the Phils a few weeks ago.

Phils beat the Mets 4-1. Cole Hamels gets the win. Myers pitches the 8th and Madson the 9th. Madson earns another save.

I though Charlie might let Myers pitch the 9th since he only needed 6 pitches to retire the Mets in the 8th.

Phils lose a real ogly one the the Mets. NY scores 4 runs in the first off of Moyer, but then Jamie calms down and the Phils rally for an 8-4 lead. The Phillies led 9-5 after 7, but the bullpen collapses. The Mets score 3 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th and win 10-9.

The Mets had 2 outs and none on in the top of the 9th, but Tatis singled and Wright homered to give the Mets the win.

Ugh.

Well....

The Phillies beat the Mets 5-4. Brad Lidge pitched the 9th and got the save. The Phils led 5-2 after 8. Lidge allowed 2 runs and the tying run was on 1st when the last out was made. Ugly, but at this point, I'll take it.

And Pedro completed the sweep last night, 1-0. Up 6.5 games!

That was an amazing perfomance by Pedro last night when the Phils really needed it. Pedro pitched 8 innings and threw 130 pitches. He is 5-0 (the Phils have won all 7 of his starts) with a 2.87 ERA.

The Phillies are leading the Natinals 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Nats are helping the Phillies out with bad baserunning.

So far the Phillies have:
doubled 2 runners off of first, one on a fly out to right, the other on a soft liner to first
thrown out a runner on third with 1 out when the runner strayed too far on a bunt
thrown out a runner out at third on a bunt with 0 outs (not so much a base running error as a bad bunt)

Make that 6-0 in the 7th. Jason Werth has just hit a grand slam.

Phils sweep Nats behind Hamels, 4-2. Magic number 10 and counting!

I think you mean 8.

If the Phillies win in Atlanta tonight the magic number will drop to 8.

Phils beat the Braves 9-4 and reduce their magic number to 8. Rollins, Howard and Francisco all homer. Kyle Kendrick gets the win in relief of Happ.

The Marlins win, so the magic number is 8 for both the Braves and the Marlins.

Phils lose to the Marlins 7-6 as Bad Lidge blows yet another save, and then the game. I can't remember the last time Lidge pitched a scoreless inning. The saves he's been getting recently have been 2 or 3 run leads, and Lidge allows 1 or 2 runs. Tonight he came in with a 1 run lead and allowed 2 runs.

I don't think Charlie wants to use Lidge as the closer anymore, but the bullpen has so many injuries there is no choice.

Lidge has 11 blown saves.

My fiance was reading through the season stats in the program at the game this weekend and was going through the pitchers (she has a thing for Cole Hamels... but I say, who doesn't?). Anyway, she came across Lidge and said "Why is this guy on the team? He Stinks! He's got no wins and seven loses." I told her he was a relief pitcher and that he closes the games, to which she replied "Well, I thought no one was supposed to score on your closer. He's obviously not doing his job." I like her, she's learning.

The Phillies clinch the NL East for the third year in a row as Florida beats Atlanta 5-4. Moments later the Phillies beat the Astros 10-3. :thumb:

Charlie makes a nice symbolic move and brings in Brad Lidge to get the last out.

They're still trying to pull the chicken bone out of the Mets throat... they did it without the aid of others, no way were the phils not clinching the division this year.
