My first reaction when they said he was from Mali was "you've got to be kidding me". This would be like putting MEAC refs in the National Championship game. Oh wait. :x
And this was his first World Cup match no less.

He looked like he was out of his element, as if he was trying to impose something on the match that simply wasn't there.

It's not the first time he's had some controversy either - in 2005 in the final World Cup Qualifier between Cameroon and Egypt he gave Cameroon a PK at the end of stoppage time that would have won the game and sent Cameroon to the WC over the Ivory Coast - they missed it, but still.

Will FIFA or the ref ever come out and say what the call was? It would seem the US side is entitled to know.

"I'm a little gutted to be honest," Donovan said. "I don't know how they stole that last goal from us. I'm not sure what the call was. He (the referee) wouldn't tell us what the call was."

And from FIFA's matchtracker:
86' EDU (USA) has the ball in the net but the goal is disallowed with the whistle having already gone

Yup, guys on the BBC were besides themselves on how that could be disallowed, and they saw the same thing you saw with the two separate Slovenian fouls as well. Just a terrible day for refeering at the World Cup - first the disastrous send-off of maybe the best scorer in the whole tournament in Klose for Germany, and now the disallowed goal.

On the bright side, this means that if the US can beat Algeria they are very likely through.
BBC radio or TV? I was looking for a streaming feed from the BBC but couldn't find it.

It's changed slightly now:
Due to Mali's unforgivable insult of American football in the 2010 FIFA World Cup by referee Koman Coulibaly, the U.S. has suspended all of its foreign aid to the country, effective immediately.

In response, American families with friends or relatives from Mali are going to protest with constant vuvuzela blasts.

The U.S. has, however, scrambled several B-2 bombers to blanket the country in bombs containing the referee's home address, so that disgruntled Malians know at whose door they can voice their displeasure. Also, it has been confirmed by multiple African news sources that Coulibaly does indeed have AIDS.

Celebrities are racing to adopt Mailian children before Mali runs out of foreign aid money. (And Mexican drug money)

New information states that Mali has gone into business selling professional gazelle gore.

The U.S. made one of the most remarkable second-half comebacks in World Cup history, becoming only the fifth team ever to gain a tie after taking a 2-0 deficit into halftime. But this result should have been the first time a team had ever won 3-2 in the World Cup after going down 2-0 at halftime.

it was just their live commentary on their internet site - really, it wasn't that complex. No video, just live blogging basically.
BBC Radio 5 live's David Moyes "I've just seen that disallowed goal for the US again - and not only was there no foul by a US player, there are probably two penalty-kick offences being committed by the Slovenian defenders. Shocking decision."

GannonFan wrote:So from a tie-breaker standpoint, it's the goal difference first, then goals scored - what comes after that? Say that England beats Algeria 1-0 today, we beat Algeria 1-0 next week, and Slovenia and England play to a 2-2 tie - who goes through then?
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference in all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows:
d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;
g) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
If England beats Algeria today and the US wins over Algeria, then the US is either through, or drawing lots...

It would be England and Slovenia with 4 points, US with 2. A US win gets them to 5. Then:

If England wins... England 7, US 5, Slovenia 4
If Slovenia wins... Slovenia 7, US 5, England 4
If tie... US 5, England 5, Slovenia 5 (d, e and f are all ties)

Correct?

The chances of the exact scenerio coming about is unlikely. England should beat algeria by more then 1-0... and the USA probably should too. I dont think Slovenia is going to stay with england and the final results will be England 7 USA 5 Slovenia 4 Algeria 0

If Algeria can beat or tie England today, a win over them by any margin puts us through to the knockouts.

If England wins the next two, and we beat Algeria, we're through.

Basically in any scenario, if we beat Algeria, we're through

So what you're saying is, LET'S GO ALGERIA!!!

0-0 at 56 minutes in. It would be sweet if they can hang on.

Doesn't matter. Goal differential only comes into play if TWO teams are tied. If England beats Algeria today, there's no scenario where two teams can be tied.

BTW, the chances of the three way tie scenario are damn good.

Sorta. First line reads kind of ambiguous - it should be if Algeria beats/ties England today, a win over Algeria by us on Wednesday will put us through.

But yeah for now - go Algeria
