Do ya'll really think you need to blow this team up? I know they've underachieved this year, but can you get significant enough talent in return to make it worth a makeover?

Well, Polanco goes because he's broken and Victorino will go because we can't afford him after signing Hamels. The only other guy that could go would be Lee, but you have to find someone to pay most of that salary (I'm sure the Phils would have to cover some part of it in any trade). If they get a 3B in there somewhere then it's not really blowing the team up. You'd still have Halladay and Hamels and Howard and Utley and Rollins and Ruiz and Pence and Pappelbon. Holes to fill in there, but it's not exactly blowing things up, just getting rid of what you have to.

Fair enough. You need to sign Hamels for sure. I've been reading trade rumors about him for the past week.

Another nice walk-off last night. Watching K-Rod implode brought me back to his many Mets failures as well. Halladay though looked like crap last night - you have to hope the offseason rest gets him back to form as one of the best in baseball next year or there are big problems there.

The Hamels-Amaro standoff is going to reach the shit or get off the pot stage by the end of the week. They need an answer or they have to trade him & move forward with who else goes - Victorino, Polanco, Pierre, Pence, Rollins, Blanton, etc...

I'm going tonight. Could be Lee's last start as a Phil.

I'll be there tomorrow - run the bases day for the kids. See if they run them better than Victorino.

The team will not and should not be blown up. This team can win the division next year. The problem this year was the lack of offense to start the season combined with a terrible bullpen. If they sign Hamels, that will give them one more shot at going all in next year with 3 aces. Hopefully, Worley will return to form after his bone chips are removed and KK or whoever else can fill the spot vacated by Blanton (imo well worth what we gave up for him).

That being said, Lee had his worst start of the season tonight giving up 4 bombs. But unlike some people around here, I would keep him. It will be important to have a 1-2 punch of Hamels/Lee if Halladay leaves after 2013.

Another nice win tonight with a huge pinch hit HR by Kratz! Yesterday and now today being down early only to take the lead late and win was one of the best feelings of this so far terrible season.

PS. How did Papschmear look tonight? :kisswink:

Papschmear was solid last night. His problems are (a) tie games and (b) outings longer than one inning. Not atypical for closers, but the one-inning-save rule should be strictly observed in his case. He's no spring chicken.

Was at the game yesterday, nice to see them close out the sweep, despite Bastardo & Manuel's 8th inning performance. Bring a righty in next time to pitch to Braun!!!

Victorino or Pence likely to go in the next 4-5 days.

Looks like that sweep to the Braves was the final nail in the coffin. The offense disappeared sadly again  . Looking to get something for Victorino, Pierre, and Blanton at least. And if Texas wants to give us the farm for Lee, do it.

Pence rumors flying around today to the Giants.

T-minus 29 hours to the deadline.

I held out some hope that the Phillies could have crawled back into the wild-card race if they took at least 4 of the 6 games on the current road trip, which now takes them to DC. That won't happen now. Let the fire sale begin.

That is not all bad. The Marlins have done the ol' fire sale, fire sale, fire sale, WSC, fire sale, fire sale fire sale, WSC,

You guys could be 2 years from another WS.

Oh, it won't happen now. :? Nats are 13-4 vs Phils in last 17 going back into last year.

Enjoy yourself, 89. Trade in all of your supposed Philly allegiances and become a down the line backer of the DC sports firmament, including the Deadskins, the Whizzes, the Kaps, and all those other ghetto squads. Good riddance. :coffee:

A large market team will not have a fire sale. The phils will simply retool and come back for another run next year. :thumb:

Today is the day.

Blanton, Victorino, Pierre should all go. Maybe Pence, I'd be surprised if Texas or someone else ante'd up on Lee.

No, just no. The phils are going to try and win it all next year and you want them to trade their only source of power? As of right now, he's the only player who is a lock for 25+ HRs as long as he stays healthy. And the only free agent who has his power is josh hamilton and how much do you think he's going to command?

The next question that needs to be asked, who the hell is our 3B for next year? Mike Fontenot?

Amaro was quoted yesterday saying they would look at getting a solid free agent or two in the offseason.

They have $138M committed to 10 or 11 players in 2013. It is highly likely as I've said for over a month now that Lee will be dealt in the offseason. 3B & OF are the biggest concerns. Will need a 5th starter (Hamels, Halladay, Worley & Kendrick) and another right handed arm in the pen.

No, Ty Wigginton. :coffee: He and Fontenot are good for 50 errors a year between 'em. Easy.

And Howard's power numbers have been in decline for several years, injuries or no. He still has no sense of the strike zone, and he is -- as Steinbrenner once called Dave Winfield -- "Mr. May" who never comes through at playoff time.
