Wow. Egos are out of control in the sport of soccer.

The second goal in the 50th minute was a dual demonstration of Fabiano's brilliance and a referee's error in perception. Fabiano beat three Ivory Coast defenders with some incredibly deft juggling before knocking the ball in from close range.
Twice, however, he touched the ball illegally, once with his hand and once with the upper part of his arm.
"That is true," Fabiano said. "It seems the ball hit my hand and my shoulder. But in order to render the goal more beautiful, there has to be a doubtful situation. It was a spectacular goal. It was an involuntary handball. It was one of the most beautiful I have scored in my career. It was a magnificent goal, if I may say so."
I am beautiful...even when I cheat. In fact, when the refs ignore the rules, I am even more beautiful. I have a message for the refs...I am an artist! Don't allow the hard lines of the rules to overshadow the softness of my touch. Allow me to create masterpieces with my feet...and even my hands...for the crowd. They love me...as they should. I love me, too...simply because of my immense beauty.

"(The match) was very complicated, very physical and with a lot of fouls," Dunga said. "Everyone who likes football cannot accept what happened. Those in charge of controlling the spectacle need to know what is football and what is not. It's hard to play football with art like everybody asks for if the referee allows this to happen."
The former defensive midfielder known for his tough play said he would have loved to be playing in the match refereed by France's Stephane Lannoy on Sunday. "I would be very comfortable in a match like that, the referee would even come congratulate me at the end," he said.
I, too, am beautiful. I am so beautiful that people would surely come to me and want to congratulate me in the games in which I have played in my mind. My mind is, indeed, a beautiful place where beautiful things happen. Come, join me in my mind. Congratulate me for what might have been!

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
And now it gets interesting for Mexico - South Africa just needs two more goals to tie Mexico, if the 1-0 lead Uruguay has over Mexico continues. And figuring that France is down to ten men and has apparently given up, it's not unthinkable that South Africa could get two more goals. Of course, all of that is moot if Mexico can salvage a tie out of this.

They probably shouldn't even be there in the first place. They needed a handball goal in overtime to beat Ireland.Grizalltheway wrote:![]()

France should be banned from the next World Cup for quitting.
Re: WORLD CUP 2010
Are you kidding?!? There's no end to the entertainment value of watching them implode, even if we did have to wait to OT in last Cup's final game for Zindane, only their best player ever, to melt down in spectacular fashion ("I'd rather have your sister" - priceless!).dbackjon wrote:BlueHen86 wrote:

Also required participation - Mexico - and if South Africa and Uruguay make it happen with 2 more goals, then this will be a good day indeed!

It's a shame that Sagna and Ribery are French, cuz they are both pretty damn good players. Gourcoff, Henry (although I will watch him play in NY next year)....not so much a fan.

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
Well, that should do it for South Africa in this tournament - France gets a goal back and now South Africa needs to hold onto the win and somehow make up 3 goals over the next 15 minutes - doesn't look likely, thereby leaving Uruguay to win the group and Mexico to get second place.
Of course, the result is no good for Mexico - sure they get the second round, but now they get to face Argentina right off the bat.

So South Africa is the first host country to not make it out of the group stages
Mexico and Uruguay advance, if the scores now hold up, Nigeria and Argentina are through from B
annnnnd Korea just tied it up

Nigeria still would have been knocked out with a 1-0 win, no?DukeJack wrote:So South Africa is the first host country to not make it out of the group stages

Re: WORLD CUP 2010
It would have been complicated, but no. First, Argentina beating Greece and Nigeria winning would have left the other three teams even at 3 points. Nigeria's GD stood at -2 on the day, Greece -1, and Korea -1. Nigeria winning 1-0 would have swapped those two GDs and combined with head-to-head would have put them in over Korea.Grizalltheway wrote:Nigeria still would have been knocked out with a 1-0 win, no?DukeJack wrote:So South Africa is the first host country to not make it out of the group stages

But Korea just scored when I was typing this so it doesn't really matter at this point.

I admittedly know little about soccer, only really watching it during the World Cup. I was just watching the Star Spangled Banner being sung and had a quick question after watching the players:
Does Landon Donovan like the cock or does he just look and act like a bitch?
