Doubling the size of Martinsville makes it half as exciting. That's the way I've always seen Loudon. If Loudon had banking approaching Dover's, it would be a killer track.BDKJMU wrote:Was a boring race, as Loudon often is..
By the way, when I talked to Joey Logano in July, he said without hesitation that Dover is his favorite track. I found that odd after 15 years of listening to Dale Jr on the radio at Dover. Jr HATES the Monster Mile, even with one of his more exciting wins there in the first NASCAR race after 9/11. That was a LONG time ago though.

It's the gay audience that was lost when Gordon retired.

Yeah no doubt. Have you seen all those people standing up and holding up two fingers on one hand and four on the other on the 24th lap of every race? That guy was beloved.89Hen wrote:He wasn't the rainbow warrior for nothing.93henfan wrote:It's the gay audience that was lost when Gordon retired.

"The Chase" robbed him of at least two more titles.93henfan wrote:7 > 4
That commercial that ESPN put out a few years back with JJ walking to his car passing all the legends of the sport talking about being one of the greats vs being the greatest ever? I always felt that JG24 would have been a much better selection for it especially with his career spanning the pre-Dale and post-Dale ages of NASCAR.

Ugly forecast now all the way through Sunday in Dover. Hopefully the sun breaks out by midday Sunday.

Dover does seem to have had bad luck with weather the past few years, including Monday racing, though we are no Pocono.DSUrocks07 wrote:When has it NOT been an ugly forecast for race week here?93henfan wrote:Ugly forecast now all the way through Sunday in Dover. For the 70s through 90s, as far as I can remember, we were pretty lucky with weather, and the races used to be a lot longer back then: 500 laps and many more cautions for blown engines and resulting oil cleanup. I don't really remember skipping school on a Monday to catch a rainout. It may have happened but I just don't remember it.

With him not being in the standings, it's more like watching pre-season NFL. Your team is on the field, but it doesn't count.BDKJMU wrote:Gordon ran Richmond and Darlington.

That's about as far away from us as you can get without being at the Casino. Actually, it's probably farther away than the casino as the crow flies.Ivytalk wrote:I'll try to find you, although I'll be ushering in turn 2 (probably).93henfan wrote:

Since I work overnights now I get to avoid the riff raff of race days, just having to deal with the night time drunks and officials who let loose during their off hours.

What exactly happened to Jimmie Johnson at Dover today? He was cruising, leading for 100 laps, then all of a sudden he's back in 12th?

And it was questionable, because there was a two car backup in front of him with Kyle Busch leaving his stall and IIRC Almirola between his exiting car and Almirola's that caused 48 to have to check up which threw off the jackman's timing. In this case, NASCAR should have been a bit more lenient IMHO. Johnson was the only car out there turning faster times than Truex and it took away either a win or a very exciting finish with Truex. Made no difference whatsoever in the Chase.BDKJMU wrote:Pit road penalty- pit crew member over the wall early.

Re: 2016 NASCAR thread
Observations from top row start/finish line at Dover:
-Perfect spectator weather. Low 70s, mostly overcast, no significant wind. Compared to recent years, attendance was at the very least stable and possibly a slight increase, which was encouraging on a bad weather spell leading up to Sunday.
-Joe Walsh was grand marshall. I wish there had been a live mic on stage because he held up driver intros yucking it up with Danica Patrick when she walked across stage. She finally got by him and he pulled her back - lol. Walsh also had a lot of kind words for veterans and military families. Good dude.
-A nice flyover by a section of F-16s from the Texas ANG. Dover has had a dearth of good flyovers for some time. No offense to any air history gurus, but I don't want a prop job on a flyover.
-Truex was absolutely dominant. Joey Logano was the last car on the lead lap in 6th place and was almost lapped himself.
-Jamie McMurray had a classic blown engine on the front stretch that you don't see often in NASCAR anymore. That sucker just completely let go, screening the entire track with smoke. Reminded me of engine failures in the 70s.
-Dale Jr needs a fashion consultant. My God, his glasses were almost as bad as Hillary's Benghazi glasses. I really hope they were medically prescribed and not a choice.
