Re: World Championships:Track&Field
Got some medals but just missed out on a number yesterday. Kynard likely disappointed about missing the medal in the High Jump and Jager did well to finish 5th to 3 Kenyans and a Frenchman in the steeplechase.
Got 2-3 in Women's 400 hurdles and Tinsley got edged out for the Men's
In the most expected race of the day, Simpson took the lead from the gun in the 1500 and got edged out by the Swede Aregawi who was the favorite. Cain had a rough day to finish 10th. She was in it in the slow first 800 but disappeared after that. One of the great things about the young 17 year old is that she seemed very upset at herself about this (expecting to win) but did so in a playful way as shown in her interviews after the race. She is a very easy one to root for.
As for the early morning races, all 4 US 100 Hurdle women, 3 US Men 200 (and 4 Jamaicans) and 4 x400 US women team made it through heats as did 2 of the 3 US Men in the triple jump.

Saw the hurdle races Hejnova won her race going away the ladies from Uncle Sam didn't stand a chance in hell of catching her in the homestretch.Tinsley got out leaned at the tape by Gordon great races by all of them.Bondarenko one day will break Sotomayor's HJ mark.I picked Kynard to win.Didn't see Simpson's 1500 final. No surprise in seeing Kenya sweep the Steeplechase.Anaso Jobodwana(South Africa)Adam Gemili(Great Britain) tied for the fastest 200 in the heats 20.17.Bolt walked in his heat 20.66 and won.Uncle Sam posted a 2:59.86 in the 4x400 Arman Hall anchored in 44.9 a frosh!!!tribe_pride wrote:Got some medals but just missed out on a number yesterday. Re: World Championships:Track&Field
Not quite a sweep. They got 1,2,4, 7. The Frenchman actually got the Bronze and a Canadian got 6th 3 seconds behind Jager. Not too much of an upset that the Frenchmen got 3rd. He ran 8:00 about a month ago and had the 2nd fastest time of the year coming in. Apparently, got the silver at the Olympics too. But you are correct, the Kenyans do dominate the event traditionally.dal4018 wrote:Saw the hurdle races Hejnova won her race going away the ladies from Uncle Sam didn't stand a chance in hell of catching her in the homestretch.Tinsley got out leaned at the tape by Gordon great races by all of them.Bondarenko one day will break Sotomayor's HJ mark.I picked Kynard to win.Didn't see Simpson's 1500 final.
Horrible start to the Afternoon session.
Neither the American Women's hammer throwers nor the Men's long jumper are in the final 8 after 3 throws or jumps so do not move on to the last 3 throws/jumps
Manzano and Lomong do not qualify for the finals in the 1500 - luckily Centro had a great race so we will have 1 finalist (who could medal)
Only Curtis Mitchell of our 3 200 runners qualifies for the final.
Hopefully, things improve by the end of the session - Should do well in the Men's shot, opportunity to get 2 qualifiers in the women's 800 finals (3 if Wilson can pull it off), a potential medal from Rupp or Lagat in the 5000 (unlikely but a chance), 3 finalists in the Women's 200 finals with medal possibilities and a potential Gold in the Men's 4x400

Re: World Championships:Track&Field
Afternoon session has gotten slightly better. In the 800 all 3 advanced. Montano and Martinez took 1-2 in the first heat and Wilson came from last with 150 to go to get 3rd in her heat to advance to the finals. Awesome run for all 3. Only question is if Montano went too hard and will she have anything left for the finals.
No medal in the 5000 (we took 6,8, and 10) but everybody let Farah take the gold by running cowardly. The 5,000 and 10,000 championship races have become a jog for all but the last 400 and then an all out sprint. Only Farah these days has the legs to win those races. The rest of the competitors have no guts and are all racing for 2nd because everyone is too scared to take it out.
Looks like we get a silver in the Shot - Whiting gets 2nd and Hoffa finishes up in 4th just outside the medals.
In the 200, we sucked. Out of 8 racers, we finished 5,6, DNF (Felix - not sure what happened)
We should take the Gold in the 4x400. Shouldn't have to worry about a dropped baton because you can look the baton into your hands unlike the 4x100.
Overall in the afternoon session, only the 3 in the women's 800, Centro, Mitchell, and Whiting did up to par with the Men's 4x400 to go. Tough afternoon.

Hey Tribe be on the lookout for a guy I have been watching since his frosh yr Anaso Jobodwana from Mandelaville aka South Africa if he gets the start of his life he could run a pr of sub 20 in the 200 final tomorrow. We won the men's 4x400 with room to spare in 2:58.71 but I was more impressed with the battle for silver between Russia&Jamaica running 2:59.89-2:59.90.Jobodwana competes collegiately for Jackson St he has improved in the 200 since his frosh year.I think next yr he will join the sub 10/20 club.tribe_pride wrote:Horrible start to the Afternoon session.

Horrible news Tribe Felix suffered a medial hamstring wonder who will replace her on the 4x100????tribe_pride wrote:Afternoon session has gotten slightly better. In the 800 all 3 advanced. Yeah - that sucks. Have to assume we will have the 4 that made the finals in the 100 Gardner, Anderson, Jeter and Freeman which means Anderson would replace her from the Monaco meet. If they want someone who runs the turns more, they may take Tarmoh instead who is a strong 100 meter runner but qualified for the 200 finals (but not sure if her whining last year at the USATF trials when she tied for 3rd has put her out of the good graces of the USATF)dal4018 wrote:Horrible news Tribe Felix suffered a medial hamstring wonder who will replace her on the 4x100????tribe_pride wrote:Afternoon session has gotten slightly better. Jamaica and Uncle Sam are not at full strength but they are still the ones to beat.Russia&The Ukraine if they have good baton passes might break up 1-2 finish.tribe_pride wrote:Yeah - that sucks. Re: World Championships:Track&Field
Centro with a great Silver in the 1500 today. Nobody can beat Kiprop who won the gold. Centro set himself up perfectly
In the 800 Montano went out crazy hard by herself and had to settle for 4th. Huge upset with the Kenyan winning and nice to Martinez get 3rd behind defending champ Savinova. Wilson with a huge PR at 1:58.21 to get 6th. Great championships for her only .3 behind Martinez for the Bronze.
US Women with an absolutely horrible 2nd exchange after being in the lead through 200. Was able to get the bronze somehow but not sure how.
Only Mens 4x100 relay left

Here is the footage of the men's 4x100 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBrbWG8z ... ata_player" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. In the women's final English Gardner took off wayyy too early she took off before Jamaica's third leg (Calvert) and had to return for the baton.Freeman ran a scorching anchor for USA just to get bronze!!!! Way to go Ajee 1:58.21!!!!! Tribe this is the type of finish I was hoping to see in the 4x100 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DATSz4mj ... ata_player" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;tribe_pride wrote:Centro with a great Silver in the 1500 today.
