Did you meet any of the MLB players?
We met Gerry Davis & the whole umpiring crew - I made a crack about Joe West & he laughed. We saw the Pirates on the field at the Japan-S. Korea game. I found it interesting that teams already eliminated were walking around in full uniform & were like rock stars taking pics with kids. Saw the Italy team, South Dakota & half the Aussie team.
If you've never gone I can't recommend highly enough.
NJ knocks out CA 12-9. Ace pitcher not used and available for tomorrow's game (winner of CT and WA). Coach screwed up the pitch count of 2nd best pitcher and he is no longer available it they play on Thursday.
I was up there yesterday - we always like the Monday schedule as you see five games. Never saw the last one, though,, we had all the introductions and national anthem and then there was lightning before they even started. Good day - got to see the eclipse (80% covered where we were and even better, they gave out free glasses to anyone attending - worked out great as we didn't have any glasses - got to see the whole thing up to and including the max coverage before any cloud cover came in). None of the teams that played yesterday will beat the ones in the winner's bracket - will be tough to see someone beating North Carolina - NJ doesn't have the pitching to do it, same with CT. I give Texas a puncher's chance tonight but even if they manage a hit here or there I don't see them keeping up with NC and what they can do at the plate. On the international side, Canada actually has a pretty good team - good pitching and they really hit well - it wouldn't be inconceivable that they beat Japan on Wednesday. But if you've never gone it's well worth getting up there at least once, just a fun place for the kids.

I didn't see the Southeast Regional games, but man after watching NC play the 1st two games in Williamsport they're a real threat in every phase of the game.
I think CT should have their ace ready to pitch again tonight - same one that pitched Game 1 against NJ.

NJ will likely start their ace tonight. He started the game against CT in the first round but only threw one inning. Hasn't pitched yet.
NJ has made many questionable pitching moves. Including letting Cartnick (2nd best pitcher) pitch to the next batter with a pitch count of 50 yesterday. Makes him ineligible for Thursday. So if NJ wins tonight, they may not have either of their top two pitchers available despite having a day off in between.
The TX/NC loser (Wed game) won't have the day off before the Thursday elimination game. Pitch limit on Wednesday will be 20 for anyone they want to remain eligible for Thursday.

The only possible knock about NC could be who they've played so far - they played the Midwest and the Northwest, probably the two weakest teams in the tourney so far outside of the Italians. Midwest even lost the consolation game to Australia.

In the SE Regionals, they were not as dominant but Georgia and Tennessee had strong teams.
Why did NJ start this pitcher? All of 5 foot tall & serving meatballs up there in the 1st. NJ dug themselves a hole & CT is throwing their #1 at them again.

All that was said was that Tai Mann could not go. He's not even playing centerfield. At this age, he's either sick or scared. NJ will have to outslug them.

They said he had "arm issues". You forget these kids are 12 & if he's a #1 pitcher between Little League, travel ball & maybe school (if he's a 7th grader) he's probably thrown a lot of pitches since March.
NJ was a victim of the one call (or lack thereof) that drives me nuts the most. CT kid got caught in a rundown between 3rd and home and ran well outside the allowable 3 feet to avoid the tag. I have a long history of arguing with umpires on this exact situation. It's amazing to me how often it is screwed up.

It's a tough call the kid took one step to his left to avoid the tag, granted it was a long step but it could've been called either way so I obviously get your point. That being said the kid hit the salami with 1 out, so really it's maybe 8-2 instead of 9-2 because of the call at 3rd.
Maybe it was karma since the 3rd base coach for NJ has been running at the mouth all game about the home plate ump....

The NJ coaches have been "chatty" in this and the run-up to this tournament. Probably just a Jersey thing.

Oh good lord. You're one of THOSE parents.
It first happened in a District Final. My son was playing 3rd and a kid was caught in a rundown with the score tied 1-1. Kid went waaaaay out of the baseline to avoid a tag. And was called safe. Another umpire thought he was tagged out and told the kid to go to the dugout. All hell broke loose. I was the rules official for the game. My son's team wanted to protest. So I asked what the protest was so I can make a ruling. At first, he said running out of the baseline, and I told him that that can't be contested by rule. Then he said that the safe runner left the field. I had to rule that the umpire told him that he was out so he can remain on third. But at the same time, I scolded the field umpire for not calling the play correctly and read him the 3 foot rule.

CT wins 12-2. Heavy advantage to the winner of tonight's TX-NC game. CT's ace is done for the tourney. And the loser tonight has to throw pitchers in two games leading up to the final.

One game not two games - it's not a true double-elimination tourney, just like regionals. Either way the only question in my mind will anyone score on NC? Haven't let up a hit yet...
