Dude, it's 3-2 the Dutch now - are you watching this on time delay or something?

The one ref just has way too much power to impact not only the game he's reffing, but the games that come after it as well. Of all the things we've talked about, I think the cards should be changed.
I have no problem with a red (or 2 yellows in 1 game) being disqualified from the next match. I think the accumulation of yellows over different matches should be increased to 3 though.

As an FYI..., after group stage, all players usually go down to 0 in their count.

As a parallel, in the NBA if you accumulate 16 technical fouls (throughout the entire season, or 7 in the playoffs), it's an automatic suspension for the next game. Three players actually reached that in 2013-2014. That's aaaaaaaaaaaaa lot more than 2 consecutive yellows in separate matches, but it's an idea.

In reality, in the World Cup Finals, you only get suspended if you get a yellow in 2/3 of the games in the group stage or 2/3 of the games in the knockout rounds.

But some refs are real easy with the cards and some will flash a card in the first minute. And this is the World Cup, the fact that I can't watch RVP or Cahill in the next game is hurting me as a spectator. I want to see the best players and this prevents it.

This is only a guess, but I think you'd see a lot more dirty play if they took away the accumulation rule. Players would go in knowing that they can afford a yellow and get more dirty hits in which could lead to injuries.

It's not a big thing I am supportive of and I get the other side but I think the reason for the rule makes sense. But that is also why they do the resetting. For red cards, I think it absolutely makes sense to suspend for a game.

There's a good chance the Netherlands would have rested RvP anyway, or at least limited his time seeing as their already guaranteed to advance and possibly even the top spot in the group (pending outcome of Spain v Chile, they may just have to show up vs Chile and not get blow out). Cahill on the other hand... sucks for the socceroos.

yeah, there were a few times Beasley was playing ol' winger, came all the way up the field, we lost possession and Ghana sailed a ball into Beasley's left back space. Jermaine Jones was all over the place, especially on that left side, which is where Ghana attacked the entire first half. That's where all those bomber crosses were coming from and where all their shots on goal came from too.
I hope Ghana gets another shot at Uncle Sam.Our goal differential says we might advance out of our group but Portugal might have to call it a year no way they score 8 goals in their next match after getting stomped 4-0 by Germany. We play Germany this Saturday 3:00 pm we need to come out of the gates smoking.
I thought we played Portugal on Sunday?

So I am supposed to root for any European teams because my ancestors were European, or just England, Germany and the Netherlands?

I am so confused. I grew up thinking I should root for the USA.

Its one thing to root for another country when they're not playing the US. But rooting for another country over America if you're from America sounds like a GD traitor.. :ohno:

I'll believe it Sunday during the game if I see it (or whenever starting lineups come out) but this could be huge since they already have 2 starting defensemen and a starting forward out for the US game.

2-0 at half for Chile. Cassilas has been horrible this World Cup. Chile and the Dutch are 45 minutes away from advancing to the knockout round. Top team in the group will face 2nd in Brazil/Mexico/Croatia group while 2nd place team will face winner of Brazil/Mexico/Croatia.

Netherlands right now at +5 with 8 goals scored
Chile with 1/2 remaining at +4 with 5 goals scored. Don't think so but would be interesting to see if Chile would push for 2 more goals to get to +6 and give them the tiebreak over the Dutch in case they tie on Monday.

Fun fact: The Iberian Peninsula has been outscored 11-1 in 2 1/2 games
