Not hearing good things about Dom Brown down on the farm...may not be here by the end of next year.

The way Mayberry's been hitting since July, we might not need Dom as badly to replace Raul.bluehenbillk wrote:Not hearing good things about Dom Brown down on the farm...may not be here by the end of next year.
Dom has always seemed like a head case. If he could ever get it screwed on right, he could be a full-time starter, but he just keeps making the same boneheaded plays over and over.

Re: Phillies Parade
Even though they haven't said it publicly you're already seeing Charlie & Dubee pulling back the reigns on the starters. Let them go 7, no big pitch counts & keep them all fresh for October.

The ESPN guys talked about that on Monday when Hamels was pulled while cruising.bluehenbillk wrote:Even though they haven't said it publicly you're already seeing Charlie & Dubee pulling back the reigns on the starters. Let them go 7, no big pitch counts & keep them all fresh for October.

I think Hamels' dead arm period in mid-August was a timely reminder for Uncle Chollie.

Magic number down to 23 with Braves' loss to Nats, who shelled Jurjjens again!

It's all about October and the division is basically wrapped up (9 game lead in the loss column). No sense pushing the starters when you need them fresh in October. Halladay/Lee/Hamels in the short series with Oswalt pitching Game 4 of the seven game series, and all four being rested, and with home field advantage throughout, and you have to like the odds come October.

OK, here it goes, calling my shot. Assuming the Phillies go into the postseason with no starting pitcher or position player out with injury - they run the table - 11 and 0.

Look at BHBK getting all Moses Malone on us - I believe 11-0 would be called "Fee, Fo, Fo". Scary thing is, I don't think anyone would be shocked if that happened.bluehenbillk wrote:OK, here it goes, calling my shot. I'm waiting to call my shot until the playoff pairings are set. The Phils are on a roll right now, but they have a 4-game set coming up in Milwaukee soon that will be a pre-playoff test. I don't foresee a Moses-like sweep under any conditions.

How's this for a stat?
Antonio Bastardo is 6-0 with a 1.38 ERA in 55 appearances this season. He has struck out 65 batters in 52 1/3 innings.
Opponents are hitting just .112 against him. That's the lowest opponent batting average of any pitcher with at least 50 innings pitched in any season in baseball history.

Howard is on track for 200 Ks, but 30 HR and 100+ ribbies for the 6th straight year ain't nuthin' to sneeze at.

Yep, saw that this morning in the NJ - Eric Gagne has the major league record in a season holding opponents to a .133 BA. Bastardo is 21 points less right now.93henfan wrote:How's this for a stat?
