They could have had Jeter, A-Rod, Teixeira, etc. so don't **** cry about the Yankees actually spending their money to help the franchise succeed. It's that simple.
When did the Twins have the richest owner, even somewhere close to Steinbrenner? For the last years while they were at the Metrodome, it was well documented that the Yankees had 6 or 7 players whose contracts exceeded the payroll of more than half of the MLB teams, including the Twins. If the Twins or others tried to stay on par with the Yankees, they would have been out of the league long ago (i.e. bankrupt).

MLB is a broken model financially. Until it is fixed, there will be only 6 or 7 true big league teams with the rest playing like a minor league filter for them.

You need to get out more, my friend.
The Twins were owned by Carl Pohlad, now deceased, and is now owned by the Pohlad family.

The Steinbrenners would be servants in Pohlad's home.

Apparently YOU need to get out more JALMOND. I have known about Pohlad for YEARS, and his family being the richest in baseball. That was common knowledge.

Research shows that I stand corrected on that account.

However, the Yankees do operate with roughly 6-7 players earning more than half the rest of the MLB teams' total payroll. Always have and always will. Also, ESPN has reported that the current Twins' payroll is half that of the Yankees. Big thing when you can pluck other teams' star athletes and leave them with nothing. It is the same broken model that exists in the NHL.

It's simple, Will, to admit when you are wrong. You can say there is no conspiracy involved (and no money involved), yet somehow there is a large market team getting the benefit of the calls over the small market team, on the field and off. The MLB head offices only want the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers, Angels, Braves or Mets in the World Series and will do anything to make sure that happens. If it a series of blown calls, so be it, as long as MLB can insure that at least one of those teams makes it to the World Series. The rest of us should feel fortunate to qualify for the playoffs.

Saturday's game may tell you a lot about how far the Yankees can go this post-season. Phil Hughes was an all-star and had a great season overall, but he was average for most of the second half of the season. Moreover, last year, Hughes was a lock-down eigth inning guy out of the pen all regular season, but became shaky during the pressure of the post-season.

Hughes needs to relax and pitch a solid game. His outlook should be helped by the fact that the Yankees figure to get to Duensing early and often, given their history against him, so he just needs to focus on pitching well.

If Hughes settles down and gains post-season confidence, the Yankees may have three solid post-season starters to go against team like the Phils. But if it's just Sabathia and Pettitte, you have to figure that the Phils' pitching is just going to be too much -- and that's if the Yanks get past the Rays or (more likely) Rangers with just two front-line starters.

At team only needs 2 good starters in a World Series. Throw them in 1 & 2, 4 & 5 and 7. Many a great pitcher has turned in a 3 win World Series, aka Mickey Lolich the Tigers #2 in 1968, and the #1, 30 game winner Denny McLain went 1-2.

IT'S NOT JUST THE YANKEES getting "mystery" calls, open your fucking eyes. Look at the highlights of the other 2 games last night. The Braves got fucked, and so did the Rays. It happens to every team. This Yankees get their way all the time shit is fucking hilarious.

Chill out, Will. I'm concerned that you may work yourself up too much to the point of a heart attack. Relax, please, my friend.

It's just baseball and most likely after Saturday, the Twins will be out and I won't give a damn anymore.

The umpires have sucked in the playoffs so far. There is no conspiracy, the Yankees win because they don't get rattled when a horrible call goes against them like one did in game 1. Many teams fold when they don't get a big call.

Bud Selig need to go. MLB needs replay desperately but he stands in the way.

The only problem is, and ESPN mentioned this last night, that even with replay an umpire's judgment and calls cannot come into play. They can't and won't overturn balls and strikes and things of that nature. The games would last 10 hours if that happened.

The catch in the 9th inning of Game 1 between the Yanks and Twins would have been reversed.
The play at second base in last nights Giants-Braves game would have been overturned as well, the runner was out but was called safe. That led to the only run of the game.
Replay would have corrected 2 of the bad 4 calls- and maybe 3 if they allow replay on check swings.

I agree that balls and strikes shouldn't be reviewed, but if an umpire has a strike zone like the clown in the Yankees-Twins Game 2 he should be out of baseball. I know that umpires have slight deviations in their strike zones, but that umpire was ridiculous.

it would be so GD simple to implement replay in baseball. It should only take 30 seconds. The idiots that run baseball, that try to argue otherwise are just ridiculous.

The Little League World Series used it and it worked just fine. Bud Selig is an idiot.

Can't blame this one on the umpires or conspiracy.

A friend of mine, Yankee fan, went to game 2 at Target Field. Said he had never seen fans so drunk, mean and obnoxious as the Twins fans were. He's been to many Twins games, and games all over the country, and these were the worst, sitting in his area. Sounds like the Vikings fans are infiltrating Twinsville.

I know there are a lot of good Twins fans, but all the ones I know personally are complete assholes. Same with the Vikings fans. Not saying there are a whole lot of good Yankees fans either, as I know personally a lot of them suck too.

I wonder if I'll get some love from clenz for correctly calling the sweep.

We'll have to see how the rest of the ALDS plays out. If the Rays can win today and push this back to Tampa, that means neither the Rays nor the Rangers will be able to align their rotations with their No. 1 going first. In that event, I'd give the Yankees an edge because the earliest they would see Lee/Price is Game #2, and there is no way either could go three times in the series, like Sabathia will if he has to.

You're actually from New York, so I'm not referring to you when I say this, but it isn't exactly difficult to start following and stick with a team that is almost always at least in the playoffs, if not making deep runs in them.

I have just as good of a reason as any Yankee fan to like them. My family is originally from the Bronx, so don't even think about calling me a bandwagon fan.
