Connery with a little shit running down the leg early. Bogey-par-bogey.
Rose the current leader (through 4). Tiger one back.

120+ mph on a drive on a par 5 yesterday. Hit a 4 iron on to the green while most others were having to hit hybrid or even 3 wood.kalm wrote:Tiger's swing looks better. Maintaining his posture, less effort.
Re: 2018 Golf Thread
Oh snap. Tiger birdies 17 from 44 feet out to pull within 1 and make it interesting.

Re: 2018 Golf Thread
No miracle. Tiger pars 18 to finish second to Paul Casey.
But, the PGA has to be overjoyed that its star is back. Masters ratings are going to be through the roof.

Nobody brings them in like Tiger. Those galleries following him yesterday were just a fraction of what they were in his heyday but were still so much bigger and louder than any that follow players today. If he makes the weekend at Augusta that would be have-to-watch-tv.93henfan wrote:No miracle. Tiger pars 18 to finish second to Paul Casey.

For the first time since Tiger last played in a major after making the weekend cut, I had the tourney on TV in the background on Saturday and yesterday.
For a lightly casual golf fan like myself, he's the only thing that makes golf interesting to watch.

You haven't lived until you are sitting at a PGA event, watching the players come by, then a mob of 10,000 crowd around you, watch Tiger hit and move on to his next shot.89Hen wrote:They set the tournament record for attendance.GannonFan wrote:

It's fun with buddies, but I wouldn't go alone. I know it pales to standing in line to get autographs at convention centers.Gil Dobie wrote:You haven't lived until you are sitting at a PGA event, watching the players come by, then a mob of 10,000 crowd around you, watch Tiger hit and move on to his next shot.89Hen wrote: They set the tournament record for attendance.

Some people like to stand in line for autographs, not me. I'll buy them second hand, get them authenticated, and then sell them.89Hen wrote:It's fun with buddies, but I wouldn't go alone. I know it pales to standing in line to get autographs at convention centers.Gil Dobie wrote:

PS: I wasn't trying to be negative about Tiger, just saying it's something a golf fan or even sports fan should experience.

Re: 2018 Golf Thread
I took my father-in-law to the US Open the first year they had it at Bethpage. We were there on the Saturday and we ended up camping out at the tee box on one of the holes on the back 9 (might have been the par 5 13th - can't remember that detail - I was shocked when I looked it up that it was 2002 - it's been a fast 16 years!). Because we were there early in the day we were right up against the rope and had an unobstructed view. Once Tiger's group got near, what was maybe 10 deep at the tee box turned into 50-70 deep. There was even a picture of the tee box in the front insert in Sports Illustrated that week and you can see the tops of our heads in the photo. Tiger was eating a banana while his playing partner teed off, and when they left the tee box there was a mad scramble from souvenir hounds to see who could be the first to get the banana peel out of the trash. It was a fun time, for sure.Gil Dobie wrote:You haven't lived until you are sitting at a PGA event, watching the players come by, then a mob of 10,000 crowd around you, watch Tiger hit and move on to his next shot.89Hen wrote: They set the tournament record for attendance.

You know we're in an extremely nitpicky and charged time when I actually thought, typing that, that somebody (not 89) could possibly be offended by me saying that Tiger was eating a banana. I almost changed the story from what actually happened to maybe him eating an apple just to make sure I didn't offend anyone.89Hen wrote:GannonFan wrote:Tiger was eating a banana while his playing partner teed off

Re: 2018 Golf Thread
Last week Tyrrell Hatton didn't hit a shot like he wanted, and showed some frustration. The announcer said Hatton had some growing up to do. Sunday Tiger showed similar frustration and nothing is said. Probably a different announcer.

Sunday they apologized for picking up some language on the broadcast after a bad shot, but I swear the player said "SHOOT!" and the old announcer misheard. Think is was Rose.

And I can almost guarantee that if I see his name in the next tourney that Tiger plays, I won't recall who he is.
As will most casual golf fans like myself who are suddenly interested in watching golf again because of Tiger.
