Would be ok. Win for Germany better for our advancement shots as it would almost eliminate Ghana.

Only if we win tomorrow.

In reality, we can control our own destiny. A draw here and a USA win gives us the upper hand if we draw Germany.
For winning group yes... Advancing it's good

Much much better than a Ghana win.

Gives US a chance at winning the group but keeps Ghana far enough back to stay out of contention. Especially if US can at least draw Portugal tomorrow

If US can draw Portugal all it would need is to lose to Germany by less than 4 to advance
Not quite because the assumption there is Portugal would then beat Ghana and we would need to know the score in that game to know differences in goal differential and goals for.

Huh? I you're a fan of the US you want the Germans to win. I'm rooting for Germany for 3 reasons:
-helps US
-German girlfriend
-German ancestry (well, only 1/8th).

portugal is -4 right now and US +1. That's a 5 goal differential that Portugal has to make up inthe final match if tomorrow is a draw

A US win over Portugal actually helps Ghana... Portugal beating US hurts Ghana

I disagree. Best scenario for Ghana is:

US lose to Portugal
Ghana beat Portugal
Germany beats the US

The other scenarios will leave them to the mercy of goal difference and goals scored tiebreakers.

I agree I wish that Ghana had won the game increased their chances of staying alive.

True, beyond #1 (German win would have helped US). Then again, most stuff posted on here no one cares about..

You are right, German win would have been better for US.

Right now US advances with win tomorrow.

If we draw to tomorrow then we advance with:
-win or tie against Germany
-loss to Germany and Portugal/Ghana ends in tie
-loss to Germany and Portugal beats Ghana but doesn't make up 5 goal differential
-If we lose to Germany by 1 goal and Ghana beats Portugal by 1 goal then we tie with Ghana in points and goal differential. I think the next tie break is goals scored.

Big time.

Now they are down 1-0. A loss and they are eliminated from advancing.

It's really a pretty simple sport. Even your average Walmart shopper could figure it out if they had the attention span to watch it for more than 5 minutes.
