If the Phillies Lose the Series....

Post by AZGrizFan »

...it won't be because of a lack of effort on the part of one Chase Utley.
He just hit his FIFTH home run of the world series....
He MIGHT be good.

And he is doing it with no protection behind him in the lineup. Too bad the Phils can't DH for their first baseman.

I sure hope Ryan gets hot if the series goes back to NY.

I don't know if the rule is that you MUST DH for the pitcher, it may be though in the majors.

Utley would deserve the MVP even if the Phills lose the series. Without him the Phills are swept.

I'm pretty sure that the MLB rule is that the DH can only be used for the pitcher.

That is correct.

Two weeks ago, Howard was hot and Utley was not. You never know. I sense that our Big Man will snap out of it in NY!

Me too. I don't think the giant sleeps for a whole series. Watch the Yanks bowl to Utley in game six (they simply can't be dumb enough to pitch to him again, can they?) and Howard will finally touch the short porch in right a time or two. The Utley/Werth protection around him has to finally pay dividends. This series is starting to get exciting.

Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton, newly rejoining the San Diego radio scene, went on record tonight saying that the Yankees are on the ropes due to pitching staff woes. Pettitte, who admitted being "gassed" in a press conference, is going on 3 days' rest against Pedro's 5; Pettitte is HORRIBLE on 3 days. They have one pitcher they refuse to use, and two relievers who are having a case of stage fright. The only decent starter they have right now is CC, and he's scheduled to go on short rest in Game 7. The only decent reliever in the lineup is Rivera.

On the other hand, Philly has the deck stacked, or so says Hamilton, a known blowhard. Throw Hamels out for four and use the ENTIRE staff the rest of the way for Game 7 to overpower CC.

Sound feasible?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

If Petite gets in trouble he'll get an early hook tomorrow for Gaudin. Gaudin is a pretty darn good pitcher and I'd expect him in long relief.

I think that is the plan. Cliff Lee said he'd be willing to pitch in game 7, it's his "throw day" anyway, so I think he might be able to pitch 2 or 3 innings.

Gotta get to game 7 first, which isn't automatic, but I think the Phils have a chance. Pettitte trains like a maniac in between starts, but he usually has 4 days, now he only has 3, that might throw off him off a little.
Should be fun tomorrow night.

Howard needs to start hitting, I don't think the Phils will win otherwise.

Cano hasn't been hitting for the Yankees, if he starts hitting, and Howard doesn't, the series might end in 6 games.
