Via my Twins connection, Mauer is going to sign for $20 million a year for 10 years. $10 extra to be spent per season by the Twins to build and keep a contender. Yankees has purposed $30 per year, but not for 10 years. Sorry Mickey, Sorry Yogi, Sorry JoeJoltinJoe wrote:Congratulations to the Yankees' next catcher.

I really hope the Yankees proposed that figure to him, and I hope it it was it can be provved cause the Yankees would be in a bit of trouble.Gil Dobie wrote:Via my Twins connection, Mauer is going to sign for $20 million a year for 10 years. $10 extra to be spent per season by the Twins to build and keep a contender. All kidding aside, I think it would be great for the Twins and for baseball if the cheap misers who own the Twins actually invested some of their massive horded wealth in the Twins, and the best place to start would be by keeping Mauer (actually, it would have been better if they had started by keeping Santana, and Hunter, and etc., but hey, too late crying over spilled milk).Gil Dobie wrote:Via my Twins connection, Mauer is going to sign for $20 million a year for 10 years. $10 extra to be spent per season by the Twins to build and keep a contender. If the Twins actually became serious about investing in their success, and then saw that this investment paid off through increased fan interest, attendance, marketing (meaning increasing revenues), maybe other teams would catch on too -- that you can make a lot of money in baseball by investing in your team).
Right now, only the Yankees, the Red Sox, and a handful of other teams get it. And if other teams don't get it soon, the haves will continue to grow their revenues exponetially, leaving the have nots farther and farther behind.
