Deal agreed to that will send Roy Halladay to Philadelphia and Cliff Lee to Seattle and Toronto will get a group of players from both teams. Deal is pending a contract extension between Halladay and Philadelphia.

Why in the cr@p would Philly do this after what Lee did for them this year? Makes no sense....
What's Toronto getting? A bunch of nobodies?

apparently Lee wants too much money for their liking and Halladay reportedly is willing to give a discount to play for them.

And now Jon Heyman backing off Lee a bit says via twitter he's now trying to confirm Lee is the guy Seattle will get. Maybe JA Happ?

I looks like:
The Phillies get Roy Halladay and $6MM from the Jays. They also get Phillippe Aumont, Tyson Gillies and Juan Ramirez from the M's.
Halladay will also agree to a three-year extension that will pay him about $20MM annually through 2013. The extension won't affect his 2010 salary ($15.75MM) and will include a vesting option.
The Mariners get Cliff Lee from the Phils and they could be getting more.
The Blue Jays get pitcher Kyle Drabek, outfielder Michael Taylor and catcher Travis D'Arnaud from the Phils.

Three of our top prospects when we already had a Cy Young caliber pitcher... JMU DJ does not approve
However, I also didn't like the Burrell trade and that worked out pretty well... so I'm sure Ruben Armaro knows what he's doing.

I'm not crazy about the deal either and from what I have read it is mostly about money management going forward into the next few years. Apparently they got Halladay for below market and could not have afforded to resign Lee after this coming season. I would much rather have seen the Phils keep Lee for this year and dump Blanton to free up payroll as it does not appear that Lee to the M's had anything to do with Doc to the Phillies. I'm not sure of the reasoning there.
I guess we'll know what they gave up in Drabek in the years to follow.

you only had Lee for one more year, you get Halladay for upto 6 if the reports of 2 vesting options is accurate. Plus your getting the top 2 Mariners pitching prospects in the deal.

The two "top pitching prospects" have never pitched above "A" ball, though - very raw.
I imagine the only reason the Phillies would not have tried to hold on to Lee this year is that there was no interest in Blanton making Lee the only viable salary dump. The Phillies seem determined to keep to this self imposed $140 million salary limit.

Yeah, I know this. Who knows how Halladay will be when he turns 35 in three years... not complaining, he's a good pitcher, but is it really worth it?
Aumont is thought to be a RP/closer at the Major league level... phils need it, but you loose a top SP prospect with Drabek.
Ramirez and Gilles are black boxes IMO... Ramirez is in class A and looks like he struggled last year. Gilles looks to have speed as a lead off hitter, but the Phils don't/won't need that for a while. The only reason I see him being included in the trade is for Werth/Ibanez... phils most likely won't be able to keep both or either when their contracts are up in 2010/2011.

Considering Lee was leaving to FA next year, and Halladay is better than him and now NOT playing the Yankees and Red Sox 7-8 times a year in the NL east. It's a good thing.
Halladay is a stud.
