Red Sox Set To Move On Gonzalez Once Lackey, Beckett Done

Once the Red Sox finalize their deal with John Lackey and get Josh Beckett's extension done its expected they will put together a package for San Diego that will include Clay Buchholz in exchange for Adrian Gonzalez.

The Red Sox will then move Kevin Youkilis back to his natural third base position full time while using a platoon in left of Jeremy Hermedia and another bat, possibly Mike Cameron.

Adrian Beltre, Jason Bay and Matt Holliday will all be left out of the Red Sox plans next season.

This certainly hurts Beltre and Holliday as each may have been banking on the Red Sox at least helping push up the value they end up receiving, and if Jason Bay's agent was bluffing this weekend when he said Bay has moved on from the Red Sox, then he seriously misplayed his hand because Boston won't be toyed with the same way it was last winter by Scott Boras and Mark Teixeira.

Of course Boston could still sign Bay in the above scenario and move away from thge platoon idea, but it would likely be for less then what the Mets have offered, so Bay would need to decide between a competitive Boston team for less or pretty much moving back to his roots of playing for a crappy team for more money.
