Wes Welker suffered the same injury that knocked Tom Brady out last year, the injury occured at the end of a catch and run that involved a tackle from the same player that caused Brady's injury, though it appearsWelkers injury wasn't a result of the tackle.
Earlier this week Welker earned a well deserved spot on the AFC Pro Bowl team and led the NFL in receptions as well as setting the Patriots team record that he previously set in 2007.
Welker will have surgery once swelling goes down and normal rehab time is 12-18 months, so a guy like Welker who runs a lot it may take longer to come back then for someone like Brady who needs less mobility to perform his job.
The Patriots have Julian Edelman who so far this season in limited action has looked like a Welker clone, the Patriots will hope he can keep performing and fill in for Welker.
Randy Moss is a leading contender to replace Welker on the Pro Bowl roster.

A great player, and a big loss for the Pats...

That really sucks. I also read where Brady has been playing with three cracked ribs in the past few weeks.

Broken ring finger since the Miami game and broken ribs since before that.

Cardinals suffered some injuries yesterday as well. We will see if they keep Fitz and DRC out of next week.

That's a tough loss, talk about losing an offensive team MVP... gonna be tough to move the ball during the playoffs without your short route, screen runner.

I hope not, so that another Pollard tackle doesn't lead to the "Wes Welker Rule"

I'm not blaming Pollard, just thought it was ironic he was there on the play. He actually told the press Welker jmade the same yell as Brady did last year.

It happened on the cut, a full step, maybe two, before Pollard made "contact". I'm not even sure Pollard really hit him, I think his arm grazed him but that is about it.

What Patriots fans wont appreciate though is the play where Pollard launched himself at Hoyer in the 2nd qtr and got flagged for a personal foul. Pollard can expect a lighter wallet at some point this week as he will be sure to get a fine for that play too.

Its not without hope. Edelman could come up big. He's the same type of player as Welker and filled in nicely for him. In two of the three games Welker missed, they targeted Edelman and he averaged 9 receptions and 100 yards in those two games.

As you can see the injury has already happened and no contact has been made. It was a genuine case of a sniper picking him off.

We used that way to describe lead blockers who fall down pulling out into space before making the block!

I always though it was the "Turf Monster" that reached up and grabbed those guys.
And some guys just flat out tripped over those pesky hash marks.

Hate to see it happen to Welker - he's a hell of a player especially given his size. He was a stud for me this season in FFL and was likely going to be one of my keepers next season.

There are two chuckles on the local sports radio down here who are legitimately arguing that NFL teams should consider the Fantasy Football player when they decide to rest players at the end of the year. One guy was pissed that he was most likely going to lose his fantasy league because he had Manning and Wayne on his team.

I love the retards that argue that running back by committee is just as bad for the real team as it is in fantasy.

They should have been arguing why the Colts felt getting Clark and Wayne 100 receptions was more important then going undefeated.

It should be part of your strategy - the guy in our championship game the week the Colts rested had Peyton, but he'd done enough research to put him on the FFL bench. FFL has become a huge moneymaker, but it's stupid to believe that the way a coach thinks about any given game should be in the best interest of FFLers. I know the folks in the stands wanted Caldwell's head, but I can see both sides of the argument. At least Brees being out yesterday gave the Panthers a win FWIW.

Ask the Patriots where going undefeated during the regular season got them....
