Team of the Decade

Post by JoltinJoe »

... is the New York Yankees.

Four WS appearances; two World Series titles; nine playoff appearances; and eight AL East titles.

Four 100 win seasons.

Money wisely spent. :)

The Yankees represent everything that is wrong with professional sports. Celebrate all you want. 8-)

Yes, they're winners.

PS -- This isn't celebration, it is parody. ;)

So is this a baseball only party or can anyone play?

Just thought I'd throw Olympiacos FC's name into the ring. Consider the following:

Greek Super League Championships: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009
Runners-Up: 2004

Greek Cup Championships: 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009
Runners-Up: 2001, 2002, 2004

THAT, in my mind, is consistency and on sheer dominance of the Greek League should be the team of the decade in all sports, but whatever.

You titled the thread wrong. It should read "Team of the Decadent".

Here's a trivia quiz: which is the last team to lose a World Series?

Yankees in 2001. Since then the team that won, won the World Series, the Yankees lost it in 2001

Congrats to the Yankees, a true professional baseball team. :thumb:

I'd vote the UNC women's soccer team as the Team of the Decade

5 National Championships (2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009)
8 ACC championships (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)

Hell, even the UConn women's bball team deserves a nod over the Yankees with 5 National Championships in the decade. Not only did they 'appear' in 5 NC games, they won all 5 of those NC games.

I'd also give consideration to the USA Softball and women's soccer teams, Concord-De La Salle football, Mount Union football, and the Sacramento Sirens (who won four world championships in this decade). I'm sure there are other worthy nominees as well.

As far as the sarcastic vote goes, well, I don't think anyone other than maybe the Clip Show holds a candle to the Yankees.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I think the Lakers are more deserving than the Yanks; 5 finals appearances and 4 titles.

And unlike the Yankees, they did it with a salary cap. :D
