kudos to our Canadian brothers. The Opening Ceremony has been pretty damn awesome. (ok, except that Olympic Hymn)

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread
I didn't see much of the ceremony, but I thought it was cool when NBC showed how Canada helped smuggle some American embassy workers out of Iran in 1979 and also Canada's response on 9/11 when they allowed planes to land there because the US had grounded all planes.
Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread

Yeah, that was weak. London will have an easy time topping that. Some cool moments, but most of it looked like a stoner's cliffnotes version of Canadian history.

Not a bad opener I thought. A little Canadiana and I always enjoy watching the parade of nations.

Agree, but what disappointed me was that I didn't see Georges St-Pierre in attendance!Mountaineer wrote:Not a bad opener I thought. A little Canadiana and I always enjoy watching the parade of nations.

True dat. I imagine it's one of those things you can only really get into if you've done it before; being able to appreciate the strategy and all that.93henfan wrote:Whoever invented short-track speed skating deserves a beer.

Women's biathlon has the potential to be a phenomenal sport. You already have chicks and guns. If they could just weed out the bulldykes, make the event topless, and have one final segment where the women stop at a keg, fill several steins with beer, and then finish by dropping off the steins at a table of male judges, it would really be the ultimate sport in the world.

USA picks up 4 medals, including one gold to lead the medal standings after one day.
South Korea is the only other country with multiple medals, a gold and a silver

Is that the event where the skiers try to jump the farthest, but a judge picks the winner? I never understood the point in have a judge. Seems pretty simple, jump further than everyone else = win.dbackjon wrote:SKI JUMPING starts today

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread
what is fucking lame is that the olympics are in my timezone and the shit is still on tape delay, so the fucking east can see it live, while I wait 3 hours. ESPN ruins the fucking results. Can't watch college bball unless I wanna find out who won 3 hours ahead of time. Ummm Monday Night football aint on tape delay neither should the olympics.
