MLB Interleague Scheduling

Is there any rhyme or reason whatsoever to how MLB is setting up the interleague schedules?

I excitedly checked the Phillies 2010 schedule, hoping to pick up some tickets to see my favorite team (Phils) at my favorite park (Camden Yards) only to see that the Phils do not play the Orioles at all this season.

I am trying to figure out how MLB determined this interleague schedule for the Phils:

BOSTON - May 21, 22, 23
@ Boston - June 11, 12, 13
@ New York - June 15, 16, 17
MINNESOTA - June 18, 19, 20
CLEVELAND - June 22, 23, 24
@ Toronto - June 25, 26, 27

Why six games versus Boston? Don't get me wrong. I really like playing Boston, but I don't understand why they wouldn't have substituted three with the closest interleague team. It's not like you can easily get a ticket to Fenway anyway. I just tried to get a pair of tix to the June 12th game and none were available, so I tried the 23rd and was also denied. The good thing about the Orioles sucking is that you can always get tickets; not so with the Red Sawx. And there ain't no forking way I'm dropping $200+ in Steinbrenner's pocket.

Phils tix are already on sale?

The Yankees have the worst ticket office in MLB. I've been trying to find out what day the new ticket license packages go on sale and no one can answer me.

I'm 99% sure I'm getting a 15-game saturday package but I can't get any details from anyone.....so frustrating.

Before I get corrected, I totally forgot about the stinking Nationals. I guess they are now considered the Orioles' brother NL squad. The two NY teams would be in the same boat, so i guess that leaves Phils and Sawx. I guess I answered my own question.

Doesn't it make you feel a little dirty paying for Yankees tickets? Be honest.

I've never been to a game in the Bronx. I would have considered going to The House that Ruth Built, just for historical significance, but I wouldn't touch that new POS with a ten foot pole.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Yankee Stadium as much as the next guy. It was the kind of place that gave me chills every time I walked in.

But, and I feel comfortable saying this without hesitation, the New Yankee Stadium is an absolutely great place to see a game. Despite the outrageously over-priced Legends tickets, they really did a good job.

They need to get moving on the demo of Yankee stadium though. Its turned into an eye-sore right now, which is a terrible way to remember it.

Oh and it helps tremendously to be a huge Yankee fan.....

Btw, we're headed to Orlando from March 20-27. The Phils play at the Braves, who train at Disney, the week we're down there, so I'm either going to catch that game or head over to the Phils' place (Bright House). They even play at the Yank's joint that week, but as previously mentioned, I'd prefer not to subsidize Steinbrenner.

They even play at the Yank's joint that week, but as previously mentioned, I'd prefer not to subsidize Steinbrenner.

No regular season games for me. I feel my displeasure with that is warranted and I'm calling a flagrant foul on you for blatant, unneccesary use of the eye-roll emoticon.

Looks like you have a lot of games to choose from as the Phillies are in Clearwater, Tampa or Orlando most of that week. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Minnesota doesn't go onsale until the 13th. However, with the new stadium opening up I'm sure they are doing all sorts of things that will bring in damn good revenue this year. I'm hearing the opening series tickets are going for a couple hundred bucks easy.

We don't usually get much rain down this way in the month of March, though we have been getting storms with every front that comes through. It has been one of the coldest winters on record in this area and temps are supposed to be well below normal for the next week. Here's hoping our usually beautiful March weather returns in time for your trip.

As an FYI -

The Yanks spring park in Tampa is about an hour from Disney. Add about another 30 min. to get to the Phils' park in Clearwater (traffic on rte 19 in CW is a bitch).

MLB tries to lock each team up with a "rival" for a lot its easy... Mets/Yankees, Giants/A's, Cubs/Chisox but for others its more challenging. For many years MLB tried Boston/Atlanta playing off that the Braves once played in Boston. The matchups just werent that appealing for 6 games every year so MLB a few years back started doing basiocally a rotation between philly and Atlanta for Bostons 2 series matchup.

What they need to do is go to the original plan they had. Before they decided to move Milwaukee to the NL it w as going to be 2 15 team leagues and basically every day of the season there would be an interleague game somewhere. They eventually decided to move Milwaukee to the ML and make each league balanced.

What they should do is move a team from the NL to the AL, say Houston to the AL West or one of the NL west teams to the AL West and then Houston to the NL west, balancing each division at 5 teams each.

The do a schedule where each team plays 3 games each year against every team in the other league, and the remaining games against their own league

Yep you answered it yourself, the Nats & O's are paired up, as the Phils & BoSox are.
