Anquan Boldin to the Ravens

If he can stay healthy, Mr. Flacco now has a big time target to throw to. If Stallworth also pans out, the Raven could now actually have a dangerous receiving corp. :o

If so, no excuses for Joe anymore. ;)

Glad to see the Ravens aren't pussyfooting around like the Panthers.

Trading our third-best reciever, who was injured half the time, is not setting up Leinart for failure.

Make no mistake, SH: Matt Leinart is NO Kurt Warner. And that's ok. The Cards will be moving from a 4-wide, 400 ypg passing offense to a much more balance, 2-wide, ball control-type offense with the two headed monster known as Beanie Wells/Timmy Hightower. Boldin has been unhappy for 2 years and demanding Larry Fitzgerald-type money....he's no longer worth it. Dude turns 30 in a couple months and his best years are behind him. He was looking for a 4 year deal (which he got from the Ravens) and he'll be lucky to have 2 good years. Additionally, the Cards have Steve Breston AND Early Doucett, both young and really not a step down from Boldin (at least Breston). In return, the Cards are able to stockpile draft picks and beef up their offensive line rotations.

Good to see Joe get some help. With the RBs they have, and if the O-line can continue to gel, Joe should be set up to put up some impressive numbers. He'll be heading into his third year, which is when many coaches say a QB is really ready to become a starter. Not too many guys are thrust into the starting role in game one of their rookie season like Joe was.

I'd still draft a WR early if I were the Ravens. Stallworth and Boldin tend to get sand in their pussies at some point during every season.

If you TRULY believe that about Boldin, you haven't been paying attention. He's one of the toughest MEN I've ever seen play the game.

If the Cards front office understands that Leinart isn't Warner and is working to transform the offense into a balanced or run-heavy attack, that's cool. But if they are going to expect Leinart to "be" Warner with fewer receivers, then they're incompetent and deserve to be fired. There is precedent of front office stupidity right next door in San Diego, where they dumped two HOF-calibre QBs and a team-HOF LOCAL-PRODUCT LBer because they thought they were "too old." The LBer lasted about another ten years playing at a high level for two other teams and even got to the SB, one of those QBs just won a SB, and the other did quite well with his next team before retiring. Believe me, the Cards' front office don't want that kind of reputation, particularly since they have to deal with Bidwell's pricing policies engendering bitterness among local fans.

I don't think anyone's ever accused Ken Wisenhunt of being "incompetent". :|

I don't follow the Cardinals closely, but I seem to recall reports of Boldin pouting about his contract in 2008 and demanding to be traded. Add that to all the games missed due to injuries and I stand by my comment.

For Joe's sake, I hope Bolding can finally keep it together mentally and physically in Ballamer.

Ah. Mmmmm...In THAT respect you are correct he DOES get sand in his vagina periodically. That should be a non-issue with the extension the Ravens signed him to. But as far as his toughness, that certainly shouldn't be questioned...

Ok I got Drew Brees and and Junior Seau. Who's the other player you are talking about?

Lots of teams dump players because they think they're too old. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't
that's just a risk front offices have to take. And it's really not what you lose, it's how you replace it. Just using the Bucs for example going from John Lynch to Jermaine Phillips/Sabby Piscatelli or Derrick Brooks to Barrett Ruud isn't the way to go.

AZ: The head coach doesn't necessarily control player personnel unless he also happens to be the GM. But wearing two hats doesn't generally work out so well because they're BOTH full-time jobs.

Rob: Have you already forgotten about Doug Flutie?

At this point I trust the personnel decisions being made by Rod Graves and Ken Wisenhunt. If they think Boldin wasn't worth the money he was asking, I'm good with that.

Flutie was a good QB, but not HOF status...well not the one in Canton. But Flutie should be a shoe-in for the Canadian Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The only reason I could think of not to include Flutie in Canton is discrimination against his "vertically challenged" status. Not on the part of the voters. They can only vote what they've actually seen. On the part of the teams who refused to give him a decent shot. I believe that Flutie COULD have been inducted in Canton had a team given him a significant extended shot. It just didn't happen because of people's bogus belief that one absolutely HAS to be 6'2" or taller to be an NFL QB.

I fully agree with you about his inclusion in the Canadian HOF. I would also add the College HOF, if only for his incredible pass to his rommie to take down the "U."
