So what I hear you saying is that Vick is going to be playing in Oakland sometime in the near future.lifesapuntreturn wrote:http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/ye ... vick1.html
"Michael Vick indicted" The Smoking Gun July 17, 2007
If even some of the stuff in here ends up to be proven about him, Vick's days in the NFL are numbered and probably over, in my view. He will probably be eligible to play this coming season while the legal process runs its course but if he gets nailed on this stuff, he's done from a public relations standpoint, not to mention a legal standpoint. The NFL may suspend him too, but that won't matter much because I doubt any team is going to touch him even after the suspension is over, if that's what happens.
In any case, even if he gets cleared, he's going to be a pr hot potato and the media will be on him the rest of his career, not to mention the scrutiny the team he's playing for will get, whether its Atlanta or somewhere else. He might even get released soon by the Falcons if his contract has some sort of 'behavior' clause in there that allows them to dump him for something like this.
I hear what you're saying. But if you read or have heard about the specifics in this case, it's vile, dispicable behavior. I don't think even the Raiders will touch this guy if it's proven he is part of this. Having PETA or the Human Society come out and criticize this is one thing but I think it'll be much more than that. I think he'll lose endorsements over this because corporations are going to be pressured by the public and media into ending their ties to him. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big NFL advertisers end up getting pressured over this, too and they in turn will pressure the NFL to distance themselves from him.lizrdgizrd wrote:So what I hear you saying is that Vick is going to be playing in Oakland sometime in the near future.lifesapuntreturn wrote:http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/ye ... vick1.html

How do you gather that? This guy is going to jail for a very very veeeeeeerry long time. Forget the names of the people involved, they've got the DOGS NAMES on the Indictment.SuperHornet wrote:Goodell's asking for a suit if he tries to Pac Vic. That ain't going to work.
The justification is this: Pacman has multiple SERIOUS convictions. Vick has never been formally charged with ANYTHING until now. Officially, this is a "first offense," though one could probably try to apply the "where there's smoke, there's fire" theory. That might not hold water, though. Given a "first offense," even if very serious (as this is), weighed against Pacman's mile-long rap sheet, a Pacman-length suspension would likely not be justifiable in court. Of course, his sentence combined with a smaller suspension may well translate to a lenthy time away from the field anyway. Not to mention the negative publicity making a future contract not likely. There is also the question of whether or not the Falcons would be legally required to pay or even hold onto Vick in jail (assuming a conviction takes place); I don't know whether or not Vick's contract has a "moral turpitude" clause. Between fines (civil and league), court costs, and lost PT, Vick stands to be out a sizable chunk of $$.BigApp wrote:How do you gather that? THAT my friends is specific evidence.
It ain't a question of "IF" he's getting suspended (probably) for life, it's when. My guess is the NFL and the Fallllllllllcons have teams of lawyers trying to figure out how to void his contract, and allow the Falcons to avoid a severe cap hit for cutting him. Maybe even have recourse for back pay and pro-rated signing bonus.
What a scumbucket.
It looks great to us Panther fans.AppGuy04 wrote:Guess letting Matt Schaub go isn't looking too hot right now
True dat, just makes them look dumb. Schaub was the better QB then and still islizrdgizrd wrote:It looks great to us Panther fans.AppGuy04 wrote:Guess letting Matt Schaub go isn't looking too hot right now
Like I said, it has to do with this being technically a first offense for Vick. If you look at Pacman and Henry, you'd note that they both have rapsheets a mile long. If Vick is convicted (and that's not a given as you know how wacky the world of law can be), THEN some action could and should be taken by the league. But to unilaterally act? There's still some question re Goodell's authority to preemptively strike in the Pacman and Henry cases, where there was so much incentive to do so given their records. If Goodell is ultimately proven to NOT have that authority, then to do so with Vick would be even worse given that this is still just a first offense.AppGuy04 wrote:Funny how the NFL has a wait and see stance on Vick, a former #1 draft pick, hmmmmm, we should have seen this one coming
Pacman was what? #6? You know damn well nobody remembers that. Everyone knows Vick was a #1. Actually my argument was a #1 draft pick, not a first round draft pickSuperHornet wrote:Like I said, it has to do with this being technically a first offense for Vick. BTW, your argument about first round bias holds no water, either. Pacman was not only a first round pick, he was the first defender taken in his draft.

Lawsuit for what? He's going to continue to be paid while the NFL investigates the charges against him in the indictment of last week. He's being arraigned later this week. I don't know what the league's personal conduct code says but when the league commissioner says he's investigating Vick's behavior in relation to the league's personal conduct code, I think it's reasonable to assume the commissioner has discussed the matter at length with league attorneys to determine whether there is any legal exposure for the league or the Falcons in doing so. The updated article on NFL.com also says the NFLPA was consulted and I would imagine the Falcons ownership and management were consulted as well. It's not a suspension like some of the other players who have been disciplined by Goodell recently. It's basically a paid leave of absence.SuperHornet wrote:Lawsuit waiting to happen.AppGuy04 wrote: I was waiting for this to happen

And it's all because he's black. If he were white, this'd be a non-issue. It's a damned witch-hunt.![]()
The removal of his mode of employment without due process could be seen as a violation of his civil rights, even if he IS paid. Had this "order" occurred AFTER a conviction, legal grounds to bench Vick would then exist. As things stand, there are NO legal grounds for this, NFLPA complicity or no. We all know how credible Gene Upshaw is right about now, anyway.lifesapuntreturn wrote:Lawsuit for what? I'm not an attorney nor do I play one on tv but it's my understanding that there has to some sort of legal "injury" that has occurred in order for there to be the possibility of legal action between two or more parties. How has Vick been injured at this point? What's the basis for a lawsuit at this time? I don't see it.
