4 year, $68 million deal to be announced at 3PM news conference at Fenway. Team will save a bit of money on luxury tax by finalizing the deal after the season started, so the deal has likely been done for atleast a few days.
The top 3 starters for Boston are now under contract through 2014
Beckett 2014
Lester 2013 (plus 2014 option)
Lackey 2014 (plus 2015 option)
Additionally Daisuke Matsuzaka is under contract through 2012 and Clay Buchholz under team control through 2014,
Total cost per year:
2011: $48 million for 4 starters (+ Buchholz renewal)
2012: $49.9 million (+ Buchholz arbitration)
2013: $43.9 million (+ Buchholz arbitration, +Matsuzaka re-signing or free agent signing or minor league promotion... at this point Casey Kelly likely will have broken into the rotation and Matsuzaka may already have been gone)
2014: ($45 million (+ Buchholz arbitration, +addition from 2013)

"A lot of people look at what you lose, or what you lost," Beckett said. "I looked at what I gained here. I gained four years more of stability, knowing that I'm going to be in an organization that's going to put a competitive team out there every year."

GordonEdes: The newly signed Josh Beckett is on the Fenway lawn playing catch. If he had a sense of humor, he should suddenly grab his shoulder
