This is what is wrong with MLB. Batters step out after every pitch. Pitchers leave the mound. Signs on every pitch.

Didn't see the game Tuesday night but I heard close to double-digit times batters on both teams stepped out of the batters box and were denied time, even Jeter.

The umpires should let the pitcher throw to the plate when the batter steps out. Right down the middle. That will stop them.

I could understand being pissy watching those games on tv that are that long...but if you're at the game personally, why would you fucking care? You pay that much to get into the game so why would you want it to end quickly? That's like wiping before you shit, it doesn't make any sense. And for umpires to complain...stfu you're getting paid.

Because most hard core baseball fans appreciate the beauty of a 2 hr game as opposed to a 4 hr marathon.

They were talking about the pace of the game the other day on the MLB Network. They were comparing a regular season game from last year to a NLCS game from something like 1957. You would expect the pace of a playoff game to be slower and more intense, but the oposite was true. They showed some clips, no one ever stepped out of the batters box or off the mound, and they played a friggin' playoff game in like 1hr 47 min.

The umps could help by throwin' up the right hand a little more often. More called strikes will get the batters swinging which would make the game faster. There are times when it looks like the strike zone is the size of a postage stamp.

So if, say, you were hired to design websites, and the sites started taking twice as long to do as they used to, but you weren't getting paid anymore to do them, you wouldn't complain?

Umpires are paid by the game, not by the hour.

So the Red Sox and Yankees take 4 hours to play a game, its good value for the fans who pay to attend the game, better to have players who fight every pitch to help win then to have a team like the Pirates who won't even field a team that could win a AA Championship.

Joe West have a problem umpiring the game for 4 hours a day? Fine maybe he should go work in a factory or something for 8 hours a day and see how he likes that.

As a senior umpire and crew chief Joe West makes close to $300,000 a year. Dividing that by 162 games (and they dont work 162 games) he makes $1,851 a day. For a 4 hour game he makes $462 a hour.... AND HES GOING TO FUCKING COMPLAIN he needs to shut his fucking mouth... better yet, let him try another failed job walk out and not get his job back when he backfires like last time.

Thats another thing with West. The game Sunday would not have lasted 4 hours if he actually called the damn strikes that he wasnt calling for both teams. Same thing Tuesday night, they werent calling strikes, Lester and Burnett both had words with the ump Tuesday night about it.

Because it's a weeknight, and kids have to go to school the next day and adults have to go to work. A game that starts at 7:30 should end around 10:00. If it goes extra innings that is one thing, but if it runs late because batters are stepping out on every pitch that gets to be ridiculous.

He's right in this case. Some batters call time in order to mess up the pitchers timing, baseball should put a stop to that. Imagine what football would be like if there were unlimited timeouts? Teams would be calling timeout on every play, either to mess up the other teams timing or because they didn't like the other teams player formation.

Don't watch Baseball because it fucking sucks. Barely ever open a thread about Baseball for the same reason. One thing that seems funny is the movie comparison. If you had a movie that was a fantastic 2 hr. movie would you really want it to last 4 hrs. without any added entertainment? I mean they could just have a 5 min. break after each scene for ya to contemplate what you just watched right.

How in the fuck is a 4 hr. game that has the same amount of innings, at bats, strikes, etc. more entertaining than a 2 hr. game?

Lets compare two games from Tuesday. Boston vs New York and Houston vs San Fran.

The Boston/New York game saw a combined 332 pitches over an official 228 minutes of game time. This averaged out to about 1 pitch ever .68 minutes or about every 42 seconds (Before you complain about that remember game time includes commercial breaks between innings which totals anywhere from 25 to 27 minutes depending on wether you calculate using 90 second breaks or the USA Today reported 2 in 5 second breaks (I have never counted)) Meantime the other game had 259 pithes over a 158 minute game which averaged out to one pitch ever .6 minutes or one pitch every 36 seconds or so, again take into account inning breaks before complaining about the time.

So right there theres very little difference between time between pitches, the big difference is NY and Bos take tons of pitches and/or foul off a lot which adds a lot to the game. Also keep in mind on that Tuesday game the home plate umpire had a very bad strike zone and was squeezing both Burnett and Lester which added to pitch counts and added to game time, both Burnett and Lester complained with the umpire between innings. So the big difference isnt with Red Sox or Yankee players stepping out more or having more mound visits. And the umpires need to take some blame for games dragging on.
