Kasey Kahne, one of the most talented free agents in NASCAR, has agreed to a deal to drive the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in the Sprint Cup Series beginning with the 2012 season, multiple sources confirmed to the Observer.

Kahne’s status or destination for the 2011 season remains unclear, however.

Mark Martin currently drives the No. 5 and is under contract through the 2011 season. Hendrick’s three remaining Cup drivers - Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are all also under contract beyond the 2011 season.
My brother-in-law used to intern at Evernham Motorsports a few years back, so we always pulled for Kahne. Glad to see him getting a chance to really run with a proven team, and great equipment. I think this will just continue the Hendrick dominance.

Good news for Hendrick. Kahne is a classy guy. I hope he replaces Martin only if Mark is ready to retire.

I'm a Jr. fan and I'll be the first to admit that Junior should be the one kicked to Stewart/Haas if Mark is not ready to retire. The problem is that Jr's contract runs through 2012, and it would be tough to dump Jr. because he's a merchandising gold mine.

Exactly.

Exactly again, I am sorry and he is probably a great guy but he is not a great racer or even a good racer as far as that goes. But just like Danica he brings tons of fans with him. They are easily the most over rated, over hyped drivers in American racing today.
